    The girt is Neill’s version of Dorothy from the Oz books of the time. He used his daughter as a model.

    My observation has been that Neill, like many otherwise masterful illustrators, could draw only one girl, and gthe only way to tell them apart is by the outfit. But this one is wearing Dorothy’s outfit! He had the same problem with adult women, too.
