No-See-Ums: Ceratopogonidae, or biting midges are a family of small flies (1–4 mm long) in the order Diptera. They are also known as no-see-ums, midgies, sand flies, punkies, and others in North America, and sandflies1 in Australia. They are closely related to the Chironomidae, Simuliidae (or black flies), and Thaumaleidae.

Reminds me of put putting up the Colorado river at 5 mph in my 10 foot John Boat..A large black fly with a white head I had never seen before landed on my arm and took a bite out of me. I grabbed an oar and tried to swat it..Almost fell out of the boat. I increased my speed to 15 mph and that sucker was keeping up with me…This one..This fly…I “SAW” him!

If no-see-ums are those tiny light brown bugs that bite me insanely hard, then by all means, they should get eaten by the fish Red is trying to catch.
