Bad idea, Jimmy! Another story from Lake Peigneur:
On the surface, Leonce Viator Jr. and his nephew were just beginning the day at their favorite fishing hole.“I said something is wrong. Water began creeping towards the mine site and the fish were jumping to joy,” Viator said.Within minutes Viator’s boat motor was kicking up mud.The two fisherman pushed their boat toward any pocket of water they could find.“I said give that boat all the gas she can swallow and lets get out of here,” said Viator.Richard watched from the balcony of a lake front house and shot film with his Super-8 Camera.“There was nothing we could do for them. They were out in the mud flat. Water had run out and they were stranded on this mucky bottom,” Richard said. The drilling hole expanded to crater size. The drilling platform and a half-dozen barges were swallowed by the swirling vortex of mud and water.“The crater started growing, It started changing direction. It was peeling off as much as an acre of land at a time, just peeling off,” Richard said.Land collapsed and trees toppled. The panicked fishermen tied their boat to a tree and were rescued by state troopers.“When I looked over here, my boat was going in that whirlpool and that was the end of (me),” Viator recalled.
Almost all commenters so far see Jimmy being swallowed by the whirlpool—fair Karma. And I agree. This would seem to be Justice Served. It would be a real surprise if somehow that little outboard could evade the vortex. Does Jimmy join the gold way down below? And what about Tellum? Will he survive with no consequences save lost property? At least Sam and Tracy can witness what goes down (so to speak)….
The only smart thing Jimmy’s done was the gold robbery, and that was by copying somebody else’s plan.Everything after that has been stupid, barely thought out, and looks like he’s making it up as he goes.Like stealing the motor boat.-Jimmy was a small-timer who should have stayed small time.
Good morning DT fans. Jimmy is about to hear that loud sucking sound just before he goes down the drain. One more bad guy dies or does he?________@Ashmael: good poem. Thanks for posting.________@Neil Wick: your posts enhance this story. Thanks for posting._________ELDO, WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU? WE NEED A POEM._________Have a splendid day my friends.
Ha, ha, ha, no doubt and that’s funny. We didn’t like that greedy killer nohow. Isn’t it cool how Neil W. uncovered that story about the November 21, 1980 Lake Peigneur disaster. Since he posted that I’ve read everything I could about it. .About your question yesterday, I was raised in Morgantown West Virginia about ten miles from our farm in Pennsylvania. Needless to say I am a West Virginia Mountaineer to the core. I bleed blue & gold. If you travel anywhere close I’d be honored to make you a guest here. Please let me know when you’re ready to travel and I will be thrilled to adjust my plans around yours.
My bride and I lived in Rifle Colorado in 1980 and 1981. Then we moved to Heber City Utah and our daughter was born in Salt Lake City. I worked on a tunnel project at Strawberry Lake in Wasatch county. I worked for a company called Ohbayashi Gumi L.T.D. from Japan and are now based in San Francisco. Back then they were considered the biggest construction & development company in the world..It is needless to say the Japanese are truly strange to work for. I was 6’ 4" and about 250 lbs and they were all so tiny in comparison … very cheep and stingy … There was always electricity within 50 feet of the face but we all used flashlights instead of cap lights so when you needed both hands to do something you usually had to hold your light in your mouth. Can you just Imagine what that made a guy think? I was a foreman there and they had about 3 or 4 old & very used rechargeable cap lights … and I made it a point to have one, but most of them wouldn’t last the entire shift. That went on for four years.Nevertheless I did learn to love those people. Chalk up another one for experience. March 27th 1984 there in Utah I became a born again Christian in the name of Jesus Christ and started attending a Baptist church right in the heart of Mormon country.
Okay, Doubleup is likely in custody, Axelrod’s whereabouts are unknown, Blaze probably got away without the police knowing about her (again!), the mustache guys (Slim and possible relatives) have been left in charge of the OTBs for now, the gold from both the 1924 and 2015 robberies are now missing, and Johnny Adonis has disappeared without anyone noticing! Lots of loose ends to tie up!
Ya think theyre gonna find JOHNNY ADONIS at the bottom of the lake? We haven’t heard a darned thing about him for MONTHS… not even Tess has mentioned him which is odd. Gotta LOOOOOVE dangling plotlines!
Not to gloat, but that boat won’t stay afloat. This story is compelling, not done by rote. Jimmy may soon learn that there is a big difference between an Ebb Tide and a Whirlpool. Adonis was last seen on March 23rd. He is likely a hostage, hospitalized, dead or back home with a terrific headache. Tess may know his fate. Just because we haven’t seen her tell Tracy does not mean she hasn’t spoken to him about Adonis. There is a lot going on in Tracytown, most of it off-panel by necessity.
….so it looks like after this wraps up, we have time for a four month or so adventure revolving around the Blackhearts before another Halloween one with Abner K? That would all be good, lol…..
If someone drills in the future and the bit hits his belly, that’s what the drilling industry calls “losing circulation”, meaning that the drilling mud they pump down the drill stem doesn’t come back up due to hitting a cavernous formation. They lose all that mud and get back french fries.
Jimmy’s oblivious of the sinking wreckage behind him, unaware of the power a giant whirlpool can do to boats.
“M-MY BOAT” exclaims Tellum.
The boat is the least of his worries, escaping being shot by Jimmy, but if the whirlpool drains the lake, lakefront property are likely to be in peril and/or caught up in the disaster. That goes for Tellum’s house/studio, who might soon exclaim:
“M-MY HOUSE!!”“M-MY STUDIO!!”“M-MY RADIO SHOW!!!”“M-MY RATINGS!!!!”
And after seeing Tracy in his chopper, might he complain that Tracy didn’t do enough to save him…err, his home?
Gweedo, be super careful with that word! What you are calling a “3-Way” might be misinterpreted by some, and you’ll be sitting on the same bench I carved my initials on! Not sayin’ it’s a bad idea, though!
SOMEWHERE in this cartoon, Amtrak or some other railroad carrier is looking for a train. Engine, coal car, caboose, and the whole nine yards. Has Tracy forgotten that? Hiding that train that dead ends at the lake (I don’t see tracks leading down to the water) is a lot tougher than hiding a bunch of bling.
Ken, I’m a-lookin’ at my Lionel Pennsylvania Flyer running around what’s left of my Christmas tree, and I see you are probably closer to what it is than I am. Does the SD70ACe use smoke pellets?
