Apparently, that’s Beyonce, singing a parody of her song, “Irreplaceable” …

The lyrics repeat the lines “To the left,To the left…Everything you own in a box to the left…”

(She’s kicking out her boyfriend.)

And these are pirates, see..?On a ship.And on a ship, they say “port” for “left”…. see?

Ow. My head hurts.

Thank you, Great Google, without Whom I wouldn’t have had a clue.

And yet – I got it so fast I was singing it as I read it, and I’ll bet my entire music-diverse family did the same.

As an added bonus – I will always remember port vs starboard now. :)

Susan, thank you. I know port and starboard, but I didn’t know the song. So I never would have gotten the joke….Which actually is a pretty good joke for the people who got it. Sometimes explaining a joke is educational.. Steve Martin used to do a routine about jokes that only a small number of people would get ….And then he did a joke about wrenches that only somebody who knew all there is to know about wrenches could possibly get…

I see her name, I call her “Bouncy”.

She speaks their language, no wonder the pirates dig her.When Townes Van Zandt sang “I’ve been everywhere”, he included a verse that just kept repeating the name of the city he happened to be in, playing to cheers of the local crowd.

Hah, I kept thinking ‘port’ as a place to you sail to or from, as in ‘any port in a storm’

Didn’t get who the singer was supposed to be, out of touch with pop music.
