Back in the 70’s, or early 80’s, the Boston Red Sox lost a one-game playoff decider to the New York Yankees. Late in the game, at Fenway Park, with the Sox ahead, NYer Bucky Dent slammed a 3-run homer to win the game, and into the playoffs. Later, NYer Mickey Rivers told Red Sox pitcher Mike Torres that they should have challenged Dent’s bat: It was corked. How did River’s know, Torres asked? It was River’s bat! He gave it to Bucky as he went up to the plate!(I read this in Sports Illustrated a few months after the fact)

Who makes people place bets? The NFL has become circus sans elephants. Time to move on.
