Your dog looks so sad. I doubt my cat misses me when I'm at school. Of course he misses you. In fact, I'll bet your purry kitty is strategizing right now on how best to show you. Really?! Sure, like doing a little whittling on your face with his claws while you sleep as revenge for leaving him all alone.

When I pull into my driveway, I can see my orange and white kitty Frank in the window, sitting in the penthouse suite of his cat condo. By the time I get to the house, he and the other cats and dogs are at the door waiting for Mom. And, not a claw in sight! Life is good!

My cats come to the door when I return home too. But that only meant that they ate their food and are demanding that I refill it.

My mom’s cat would climb onto my shoulders when I got home and bent down to wash my hands. (See my avatar.)

When I was a teenager, we had neighbors who worked for the State Department..They had brought a Siberian cat back from their assignment in Russia. After a shift in the DC area, they were sent to Djakarta, but couldn’t take their cat so they gave her to us..Several years after the cat joined our family, the neighbors were passing through the DC area. They stopped in for a visit. .At the end of the afternoon, when the neighbors were leaving, the cat got up when they did and followed them down the sidewalk all the way to their car. .But she stayed with us, and later helped raise my new puppy.

If you spend the time to get to know a cat you find they are full of love and are very intelligent. Good companions.

I had a cat who would scratch my face while I slept but it was out of love, not revenge. Lol.

For what it is worth, my wife and I have 4 cats! And yes they miss us when we are gone :-)

I don’t know that my cats ever missed me while I was gone. But I do know that whenever I went out the back door to go to the mailbox, they would come around from the front of the house, follow me to the mailbox, wait either at attention or sitting while I got the mail, follow me back to the house, then go back around the front of the house while I took the mail in the back. I never saw a cat behave that way before; and then I had these two cats do it. And it certainly wasn’t anything I taught them. Not long after the second cat was born to the first one, I was laid up for about six weeks after blowing a disk in my back. I’d take my meds in the morning, which would just about put me out until my wife got back home from work about 10 hours after she left. But every morning at 11, like clockwork, these two cats would stick their heads up over the end of the bed and look at me as if to say, “What’s with the big cat? He’s not getting out of bed,” at which point they would hop up onto the bed and curl up behind my knees. Six hours later, that’s where my wife would find the three of us.

I am a Red and Rover fan, and I completely get that this is a comic centered around the bond between a boy and his dog. In fact, that is one of the reasons I like the strip because I had a close bond with my childhood dog and I can relate to it, however, I also had an even stronger bond with my childhood cat. Her name was Nada, and she would walk down to the bus stop with me every morning; she’d follow me all on her own. Nada would sit and watch me get on to the bus, and then continue to watch as the bus whisked me off to school. In the afternoons, my cat could always be seen sprinting down the driveway, eager to greet me as soon as the bus dropped me off when I came home. She had numerous of other affectionate ways of letting me know how much she missed me anytime I was away from her, but since this particular strip had to do with going to school and coming home, I felt it appropriate to share this specific thing that Nada would do for me that made me feel loved by her.
