Danae: Hey, Kate...I can't remember where I left my iPad...have you seen it around? Kate: Check in the vestibule. Danae: Uh... Ok, what's a vestibule? Kate: A hallway. Vest-i-buuuuuule vestibule vestibule vestibule vestibule vestibule. Gah! Earworm!! Joe: I think you have a bit too much fun with your word-of-the-day, Kate. Reconnoiter is a wonderful word. But you have to connoiter first before you can reconnoiter and that can get you in trouble with your English teacher. Okay, see ya, I’m going out connoitering now.

I work at City Hall. It’s 100 years old and has a grand domed thing out front that all city workers delight in calling the “portico”.
Just to watch their expressions I always refer to it as “the front porch”.

First you write:“I’m surprised no one corrected Kate.”, then immediately follow it with, " Yes, a vestibule is a hallway…". If Kate isn’t wrong, then why do you think she needs to be corrected?
As for the hallway she’s referring to, how do know it doesn’t lead outside? Or was this just an attempt to display your knowledge of the word?

Ah! But how many of today’s rich words started out as slang? (Hint — all of them?)

??? Every word started somewhere, and when they started they were slang.

Technically a vestibule is a hallway connected to an outdoor entrance, so….. oh, heck some words are more fun than others. :D
