Abbott is trying to bring transparency (“facilitat[ing] communication and to make people comfortable and informed about what’s going on”)**, which can only be a good thing. Better people get their news from the governor’s office than from Alex Jones. If the kooks are making wild claims that have the potential to cause serious unrest (case in point: 9/11 trutherism), then the kooks shouldn’t go unchallenged – better communication between the state and DoD makes challenging them easier.

With the Bush family and the Clinton family, succession is the problem: a perceived belief on their part that they should be a ruling family. With Texas it’s a secession problem:it sees itself as independent of the rest of the US and perhaps would make many happy by leaving.

to correct a misconception. Abbot charged the State Guard not the National Guard to observe. The State Guard are a bunch of old men playing army with outdated equipment. They provide labor during natural disasters and ceremonial duties during state events. The National Guard is trained in real military tactics. The State Guard is probably eating this up as they will get to head to the military surplus store and get new equipment and play dress up. Rest of country misunderstands the difference. As a forth generation Texan I can assure you that I don’t go around bragging about being a Texan anymore. We have an election system in place that has effectively disenfranchised most of the electorate. Fewer than 1/4 of eligible voters now decide statewide elections. One of the worst election records in the country.

If Texas secedes, the Arizona Highway Patrol will be required to stop any driver wearing a ten-gallon hat on suspicion of being an illegal alien.

Your meant secession, right? They’ve already achieved success-ion. Economy is good, humidity could be better, but November is a pretty nice month. My family’s still there, but I’m an expat now, in WA.

So as a taxpayer in Texas I am appalled that this kind of nonsense can be funded by the state government while the cuts that were made to public education in 2008 have yet to be restored. If secession ever happens, Texas will slowly but surely become a third world country because the paranoia would not cease just because the Fed is out of the picture. The loonies would have to start developing new idiotic conspiracy theories about whoever is in power in the new Nation of Texas. It would probably end up looking a lot like Syria.

Actually, Richard S. Russell, the question that was settled, was answered incorrectly. I am not in favor of any state succeeding, but apparently, Lincoln and the North failed to apply the Constitution when saying that no State has the right to leave once admitted. There is nothing in the Constitution to forbid it, and, the Declaration of Independence states that no man, who can no longer tolerate the government he lives under, is under any obligation to do so.

I am not sure if Texas will succeed nor secede. Maybe if they get rid of Abbott, they will succeed. We have brownback in Kansas but no one talks about secession. We probably won’t be sucessful with the policies of brownback, however, I would say…

My brother has lived in Texas for about 30 years, and I know there are good people there. However, this Jade Helm 15 debacle IS loony. There have been war games in Texas for many many years. The federal government does – and did communicate with the governor (as well as the governors of the other states in which the massive exercise would take place). No other governor saw the need to call up their state guards – no, Texas is not the only state with a state guard. There was no valid reason whatsoever other than to proclaim that they Don’t trust the government. Really and truly, what the loudest boors in Texas repeatedly declare is that they hate the United States. It’s a minority, sure, but I’d lay odds that it’s a bigger minority than in any other state.

I lived in Texas for years. I loved the sky at dusk. I wasn’t crazy about anything else, so I moved. I now live on a river in Washington State. I’m much happier here.

The South still doesn’t think so. Especially every time you hear them tout nonsense about State’s Rights. That issue was supposed to be SETTLED in that same war. End results were that the Feds allowed the former Confederate States to impose Jim Crow laws and other Civil Rights violations.
