Medical pot when used as needed, doesn’t get one nearly as high as most pharmaceuticals, and it works. It also has the advantage that it’s impossible to fatally O.D. on it, unlike those nice drugas big pharma will sell you. BTW, check the TV ads for any of those pharmaceuticals that have a list of potentially lethal side effects, and may only be for psoriasis, or a non-lethal condition.
As dtroutma implied above, used as directed medical marijuana does not cause patients to become “high” in the commonly accepted sense of the word, and also is far less addictive and harmful than prescription medications like opioid pain drugs such as morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and others. The toon as used here is obviously just for humor, but nonetheless makes me wonder if the McCoy boys and most of the commenters have any experience at all with either.
The feds have long banned any research on medical marijuana here, so the pharma companies can say “no proof”, while Israel (a pioneer) and other nations have proved long ago many positive medical uses for various forms of cannabis. That’s not to mention the thousands of years it’s been used medically, and effectively, in “primitive” cultures. BTW; remember on sources for medicines in botanicals, aspirin is just processed willow bark. (and over 90% of drugs trace to botanical original sources.)
This is interesting because medical pot became available in Minnesota on July 1 of this year. Of course, in Minnesota it is only referred to as medicine…
Thanks for the information about the McCoys Ryan (Say what now‽). I didn’t know they (he) had an editorial cartoon. I’m not surprised at the conservative slant of course. I tend to be center right on many issues myself, but do not fit neatly into a little box with a label. I may be more to the left on some issues such as using marijuana for medical purposes. I don’t like the fact that the pharm industry is controlled by a relative handful of giant corporations that put profits ahead of people, and remain open to alternatives. Nonetheless, I usually follow my doctor’s orders.
People do not die from using marijuana Nabuquduriuzhur. If they die after they, “mix marijuana with booze,” and drink too much, then they die from alcohol poisoning. As with the McCoys you obviously have no direct experience with marijuana, and get all of your information from second- and third-hand sources. You probably picked up the tidbit about people croaking from using marijuana from Fox News or the Drudge Report. If you’re going to get your information from sources other than primary sources you must have the intelligence to separate facts from fiction. Stop and think for a moment, if marijuana is being increasingly and so widely accepted by the medical establishment and state, regional, and local governments for both medicinal and recreational use could it be any more dangerous than alcohol? The answer is no. In fact, it is less dangerous. I don’t use marijuana or necessarily advocate it’s use, but I dislike seeing stupid, illogical disinformation being spread about its dangers such as the nonsense in your post.

I’m so square. I’m obtuse. No. That if I took LSD, I’d see nothing but Lawrence Welk.
