Yes, it would be possible for a third party to win a presidential election, but ONLY if something else happens first…..Unless and until we have real electoral reform — instant runoff voting [aka ranked preferential voting], fully open primaries if funded by public money, an end to gerrymandering, getting money seriously out of politics, automatic registration, etc., all of which I support — the viable choices on election day will be between the Republican and Democratic nominees..We need to push for those reforms. In states that allow ballot propositions to originate from citizen initiatives, third parties such as the Greens, Peace & Freedom and even the Libertarians, should start circulating petitions to enact these fundamental reforms.
