He looks so great, but Diet Smith is not happy to see him at all! I probably wouldn’t be either, if I was kidnapped at 3 am.

You would be much happier kidnapped at lunchtime ?I wouldn’t be happy in either case, but I’m pretty sure I’d be grouchier if someone woke me up when I was trying to sleep before they took me away.

Why is it called kidnapping when it is a full grown man ?

Supposedly, the original meaning of kidnapping was to “steal children to provide servants and laborers in the American colonies,” but it has changed and expanded since then. Words are like that. Now, it includes carrying away any person, and it almost always implies holding them for ransom. Since Mr. Bigg certainly will want something from Diet, it qualifies as a kidnapping. (Méliès obviously engineered the capture, but he also wants something in return.)

I put the following here only because I have wanted it for a long time:When, the hand with the rose (and the song) appeared here on 6-4-2015, I was the first to post::“OMG!!! I’ve hinted, “predicted” and HOPED for this FOR YEARS!!! I freely acknowledge that I may very easily be mistaken or maybe it’s just wishful-thinking on my part…but, is this THE RETURN OF MR. BRIBERY???!”And years prior to that (5-31-2012, during the “Mr. Crime” story), I said:“After reading today’s comments, so far, I went back & reread Mr. Bribery’s “last” story. And while Mr. & Mrs. Chin Chillar (what a great couple!) did indeed drop Bribery through the roof of the prison carpenter shop, no one actually says that he is dead. You would assume so, but quoting the 2 prison guards, upon discovering him, “It’s the first time anybody ever came to work in the carpenter shop this early.” “And he didn’t use the door?” “Who is he?” “Ugh! That’s a good question.” I only bring this up because Bribery was a great character who Chester Gould must have liked because his story seemed to last a long time. The new Mr. Crime? Who knows?”I’ll freely admit that I’m no Willy007 who spent a lot of time & effort figuring out that the new Moon Maid was Mindy Ermine (especially since I also speculated – tongue-in-cheek – that Mr. Crime could also be Cheater Gunsmoke!). It’s just that I’m happy to see this rose-loving psycho once again!THANK YOU, MIKE & JOE!

The Reveal that everyone has been eagerly anticipating! And, yes, it is the quirky Mr. Bribery, a.k.a. Mr. Bigg! With his head twisted at that angle, I wonder if in his great fall he broke his neck and, since we haven’t seen him standing, much less dancing around, is perhaps partially paralyzed? That would explain a smoldering desire for revenge and a black heart….

Since Bigg seems to approve of Melies" action, will Melies give up the second part of his scheme, which was to see Bigg “Dead fish dead”? If this brings the Melies faction back into Mr. Bigg’s “good graces”, maybe they will realize they are still better off being part of the team.

I predicted that Mr. Bigg was Bribery back on June 13th in a rather long post. Some said it couldn’t be. Bribery had died in the fall through the roof. Today my prediction is totally confirmed.

Now that Mr. Bigg is confirmed to be Bribery, it is likely the prediction about the appearance of Moon Governor will prove true as well. I’m looking for him about the middle of this arc.

On July 10th in another lengthy post with discussion, I traced what I believe to be the progression of the 52 Gang into the Apparatus into the modern Blackhearts. My belief, as I stated, is that Bribery (under various aliases) was the actual head of each of those organizations. Let’s see if that thought pans out.

I’ll admit that my speculation about him being in some crippled Davros-like state seems incorrect but I still want to see him dance around and sing like a maniac.

I like Joe’s rendition of one of Tracy’s most famous foes.

Well, after waiting nearly FIFTY years for the return of Mr. Bribery, my all-time favorite Tracy villain, and after reading DT online for several years after our newspaper did away with him, I have decided to join and post on this momentous date!

Like other here, I eagerly await an explanation as to how Bribery survived his fall at the hands of the murderous Chin Chillars back in 1967, an event I watched live, and for which I never forgave them.

(My user name reflects the year I began reading Tracy, during the Matty Square sequence.)

Now if only cigar-smoking Kitty would return. The last I saw, he was in the police zoo with Lil Dropout and Claiborne, the crow.

My Tracy mania back in the mid 60’s lead me to cutting out and saving the Bribery story line from our paper, clippings I still have to this day.

Ever since Moon Maid was reintroduced. it’s become clear how popular the Moon Era was and continues to be. The excitement and applause over Bribery’s return is the latest evidence of this. On the whole, the Dick Tracy fan base is clearly enthusiastic about the space fantasy angle, though admittedly some fans are not. Even the latter contingent can be glad, however, because it’s helped make Dick Tracy relevant again. People are talking about this strip. It’s winning awards! Who would have thought that possible six years ago? There’s little doubt that the return of Moon Maid has been a significant and ongoing catalyst to all that. The Harvey Awards, soon to be three I’m betting, tell me that not only serious Tracy fans are excited about Moon Maid and the return to space, but comic fans in general are approving of it. And why not? It’s creative, fun, and imaginative, with a healthy dose of notalgia mixed in. A potent, intoxicating brew for a new generation of fans who love that sort of thing. Long live the revived Moon Era!

Why is everyone so sure Ugly Christine is dead? It’s easy to explain her survival so long as she gets some sort of a handhold inside the chimney, or encounters maintenance scaffolding or ladder, for example. A standard industrial furnace wouldn’t likely be hot enough to so thoroughly destroy a human body as hers supposedly was, and the furnace could have had some screening to prevent hot shreds/ash from floating out into the city.

And didn’t Gould seem to be setting up another return for Bribery not too long after his “death”? The leader of a crime syndicate whose face was never shown, who appeared to be suffering from a serious physical injury, who dressed like bribery, who had connections to the Chin Chillars, who had an associate with that over-the-forehead hairstyle, who had a racket involving a Space Coupe similar to one today’s Bribery/Bigg is said to be interested in.

Mike and Joe could be setting up a really big retcon tying together most of the old Space Coupe storylines. If I have time, more tomorrow

First off, I haven’t read all of these comments so somebody may have mentioned this before. The package Notta receives from the Blackhearts a month or so ago could be payment for sparing Bribery’s life at the last minute. Possibly they switched somebody else for him. Keeping Those SECRET IDENTITIES . . .

‘Interesting’ to take a peek at the length of time Mr. Bigg’s “identity” had been a closely held *secret*’A ‘long time’ when all we would see was a gesturing Hand (or hands) to tantalize us into all sorts of ‘speculation’.In this particular case, ranging from Batman’s Penguin through Intro, the jailed Ace of Spades, and others to Mr. Bribery. And then came the “hint” - with that affection for the Rose over these past weeks, the latter name seemed almost certain. Now confirmed !

    Jan. 11, 2015

The HAND first appeared on (1-11-15) this year, or looked at another way, the “secret identity” was held for 6 months and 5 days !

How does the time frame ‘stack up’ against those of other earlier characters ?That of Venus easily comes to mind . . .We all recall that very much the fashion of Chet Gould’s Painted Lady (Neva Intro -1969) she was (extensively) portrayed with just her Legs showing, the Face hidden, never revealed for Seven months and 1 day !Almost seemed that 6 months or thereabouts was Mike’s preferred time ?

    Oct, 4, 2013

    May 4, 2014

That is, of course, until we look ‘further back’ to 2011 / 2012. And find that the “Big Winner” is easily NEW Mr. Crime (aka Davey Myler)

We can compare the time span from two dates (take your pick?) From the date the Secret Files of the original Mr. Crime were picked up by a (then unidentified) individual (6-16-2011) or from the date Panda was hired (7-15-11) to set up the New Organization If we use the more generous longer time that’s 1year + 1 day to find out the Identity, *o*r from the Panda come in date 11 months *and *2 days !

While I would love to believe my handle had something small to do with these events (handle started in Locher days, then Bribery’s first appearance in 2011 mentioned shrinking Tracy’s head…which gave me the smallest hope this would really happen), who cares? This is awesome!!! I always wondered why the Chin Chillars were not being threatened with Bribery’s death and had slim hope that one day he would return…until Gould retired and so with it 1962-1977.

The Comic Curmudgeon stated today "Bribery is a bad man even by the standards of Dick Tracy villians, and let me tell you that is pretty bad; the beloved insane villain of the beloved insane “Descent into Madness” period.

As stated in a previous post on this…for me Bribery’s quirks are what made him genius; smoking cats, pickpocketing, deathtraps, shrunken heads, coke sniffing shaman, branding, bribery, councilmen, blase secretaries, roses, no more corpus delecti. He has quite the rogues gallery assembled this time, should be a very interesting story.

Thank you Team Tracy! What a great illustration of Bribery to kick it all off!

VERY VERY LATE IN THE DAY, don’t know if anyone will notice….The one speculation I haven’t seen is this:.Mr. Bribery is another chimera, just like Mysta! Of course, we would need to know who was sacrificed for Mr. Bribery, just as Mindy Ermine was sacrificed for Mysta. It might also explain why Bribery is now Mr. Bigg; like Mysta, he is not the original….This alone would explain interest in Smith, space coupes, not to mention Zy Ghote and Tim Sail!.It would also get us around absolutely any continuity problems presented by Bribery’s death back in the sixties!

Well, we finally found out for sure that Bribery is back. This wasn’t a misdirection by Team Tracy to throw us off and surprise us. The clues shown over the last few months could only lead to Bribery. I don’t know how he survived or how he got out of prison but looking over the history of comic characters that were certainly dead but still were alive this is not so hard to explain. A lot of things could have happened to explain this. I remember anxiously reading the original Bribery story in the 1960s so this is a real treat. One of Tracy’s greatest villains is back. This is going to be some ride.
