Maybe this spider spins monofilament line which is thin and strong enough to cut the leg iron. (But then how does Spook avoid cutting his fingers off with it?)Parker and Hart were just having some fun here, methinks.
Two thoughts here, first, many dungeons had high set windows to torment prisoners with the sight of the sun which was always out of reach. Second, maybe spook is from the Roger Rabbit school of comics where you can easily escape your manicles, but only when it’s funny.
After Geo. Herriman’s KRAZY KAT, WIZARD OF ID is my all time favorite comic strip. Brant Parker was a comic strip BOSS! His drawings look silly and simple but he got so much milage out of every line – the compositions are always perfect. Great characters and satire – Really glad to finally see these all in print here from day one. Thanks to the editors of this site.
