’Twas the thought that counted, mister. For sure that was plenty.

LoboGrandeThat would have been a lot more accurate, and a heck of a lot funnier!

Our paper did not carry this strip back in the day, so I’ve never heard any of this before and didn’t know the incident was real. We picked it up about the time April was a twinkle in somebody’s eye and followed for years after that.

Lynn’s CommentsMy mother-in-law stayed at my house, looked after the children, and answered the phone. My brother-in-law stayed at his parents’ house with his dad who was in constant touch with Search and Rescue. He had the map on which Rod had recorded his flight path and destination. Having been a prospector, Tom knew the land well. He also knew that Rod was with a group of experienced outdoorsmen, and if anyone knew how to survive an accident, they did. He was calm and reassuring, but inside, he was prepared for the worst. We all were.

A small plane crashed in a forested area just off the highway on a large hill. It took 2 weeks to find it. People don’t know how large a parcel of land can actually be. The fact that people are found is a miracle. The pilot had died on impact and obviously couldn’t signal.

At least that wraps up an earlier question: Who was going to take care of Elizabeth and Michael? Not that that is a major point to move the storyline forward, but they would probably have to be boarded at the Bairds, the Enjos, or the Nicholses since Connie has moved away. Have the four grandparents been informed of this situation yet?

When you’re worried and scared, comfort can help. I’ve been there…

I know a little bit about “Search and Rescue” since I spent 39 years (split service) in Civil Air Patrol and have seen many changes over the last fifty-plus years.

he was offering comfort. It has to be a small town where they know the searchers (the local know-the-area ones and the EMTs on standby) and know that anyone who is a stranger who isn’t getting food to get back on the road is probably the missing person’s family, and that it is two women who only seem to have each other, no circle of friends and family like if they were in their home town.

People don’t know that hope is ‘false hope’ until there’s evidence of that. Right now, there are two families in South Florida who are paying for private searches for their two 14 year old boys whose boat was found, overturned, in the ocean around Melbourne, Florida (quite a bit north of where they went into the Atlantic for a day of fishing.)

The Coast Guard called off its search, but say they will start up again if any of the searchers find anything credible…
