Voice (out of frame): Can you switch the TV off of the news station? I'm on vacation and would like to block out the world... Waiter: Sure. Voice (out of frame): I especially don't want to hear anymore about the stupid supreme court rulings!! Waiter: Got it. *klik* I'll just turn it off. Voice (out of frame): Much better. Thanks. Waiter: No problem. And enjoy the rest of your vacation, Justice Scalia...

Wouldn’t surprise me a bit. (Honestly, I think the Supremes are on vacation while they’re on the job, sometimes…)

Randy, thanks, I couldn’t remember the other two. Hey what was the name of the Chief Justice had 3 white stripes sewed on the arms of his robe? That was great! The design he got from a science fiction movie!

Rehnquist’s stripes were inspired by a Lord Chancellor costume in a community theater production of a Gilbert and Sullivan opera.

I didn’t realize that Aton went to Maine on vacation. I thought he enjoyed Fire Island, in New York or P’town, on the Cape.

citizens united….conservitives know how to name things…how many citizens would want billionairs to select our government..
gorbag over 9 years ago
@phylum Billionaires at least know how to create jobs, something unknown to most of the others who think they are capable of selecting the government.

WE are the job creators! If you give a billionaire more $, it’s likely to go into investments, often offshore. If you give a middle- or working-class person more $, they spend it on goods and services, creating jobs for the grocery clerk or car repairman down the street.

Wiley would advocate for scrapping all laws and just letting liberal judges decide what is or isn’t illegal.

“Justice Scalia” is an oxymoron. “Justice Thomas” is just wrong.

For a balanced view of world news, I watch Al Jazeera , BBC World News, and listen to NPR, as well as watching Ecuavisa News, here in S.A.

What we seem to be getting all too often is a sanitized version of events — sanitized by the need not to offend. e.g. in the aftermath of the Chattanooga attack last week some of the media pointedly refused to speculate on the religion of the attacker. That his first name was “Mohammod” was not enough of a hint to allow speculation. If you want to see the flip side of Fox News try BBC America — they are so partisan and prejudiced it’s shocking. Be grateful for the Free Speech amendment. It might be worthwhile to hang on to.

America lost a lot when Chief Justice Rehnquist retired. Sadly, we’ll probably not see his like a gain.

Not cool for blatant politics in a strip like this. Not cool at all.

@Whooziss: why not? Someone’s got to speak truth to power.

If it were Me, I’d probably choose something based on the Doctor of Law Academic Gown worn for College Graduations. Maybe toss in some trim showing the University colors.

Lately, Scalia is reminding me of Dana Carvey’s “Angry Old Man” character from ‘90s SNL. I’m surprised he did not say “flobble dee flee”.

Yeah, enjoy — ever think of making it permanent? When Justice Scalia takes a vacation, the rest of us get one too.

A system of government that makes the People subordinate to a committee of nine unelected lawyers does not deserve to be called a democracy.-Scalia
