Personally, I have invented a secret free energy device which I am willing to sell out to the highest bidder. Maybe BP?

Or the oil companies might combine to form a world monopoly on that gem and use the petrol to turn the world into a 1960’s-style Futuristic Plastics Paradise. Think of all the possibilities, you two, before you settle down to enjoy yourselves.

Ahhh…so the gem goes into the Museum of Unwanted Wonders, alongside the 100 mile per gallon carburetor and the Arc of the Covenant.

Where can I get self-eating watermelon seeds? Might be very entertaining to watch them in my garden. Do you need to keep them separate from other plants?

In the ’90s there was a sketch comedy show called The Edge, and one bit they did was “What the inventor of the car that runs on water is doing right this minute”; they showed a man chained to a wall in General Motors’ dungeon, yelling, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

napaeric, the seeds themselves are not self-eating. Only when they become mature watermelons. And no, you don’t have to keep them separated from other plants or even from each other. I’ve grown many, many self-eating watermelons. In fact, those are the only kind I’ve ever been able to grow. They do make nice centerpieces.

Dr Mel did not swallow the gem. It is still in his left hand, as it was in panel 2.
