Oh, I don’t know. Those models on the infomercial have great abs and they only need two or three days without eating or drinking.

I’m a big girl, and I don’t care what people think anymore… I was born this way (thanks Dad for your bones and muscle structure), and I’ve made peace with it… :D You should too Cathy!

Cathy is just fat. She needs to cut out the snacks and exercise or the bottom line is she’ll die from heart disease. There, I’ve said it !

How many years has this strip gone on, playing this one note? Hell, there’s more variety in the old “Love Is” cartoons.

Cimka: The only reason to fear weight is health risk, but Cathy’s aversion to weight is entirely vanity, insecurity, and peer pressure.

Like she’s actually thinking of her health. XD

I think the cartoonist obsesses over this because so many women out there obsess over their weight–and she is sort of making fun of that fact. The lengths some people go to get thin can be pretty ridiculous.

I agree with hizzonner. This whole “Cathy doesn’t like how she looks in the current fashions and what is she going to do about it this time” is very repetative.

I pretty much agree with Banana, Cimka and Smiddle - AND also with Tanya.

Healthy and heavy can happen together, especially if one is big boned and well-developed. And people worry too much about appearances, because otherwise it’s lonely - our culture is a drumbeat of “image” as much as it is of “consumerism.” They’re what drive the economy of a “free country.”

Personally, as a Guy, I think heavier is more physically attractive than skinny if the person looks healthy. Bony, sickly, muscularly wasted away, pale, etc., repel me - regardless of the clothes style or size. Pudgy, overtanned, lazy, and physically too weak to carry one’s self, etc., repel me just as much.

It’s so easy - and so attractive - to be healthy, as soon as one stops obsessing about merely appearing to be attractive!

@smiddlecn, yes, people do obsess too much about their weight and their looks, and that’s what is being made fun of.

I agree with @Avon; healthy is more attractive than unhealthy. The current vampire style makes me very uncomfortable, because pure white skin (as opposed to realistic pinkish) looks to me as tho the person is really sick. But I guess they actually are.

Honestly, I wish Cathy would just get pregnant so we could have something NEW. The last time I remember being really interested in the storylines was her wedding, and that was less because I find weddings interesting (I actually don’t) than because it wasn’t the same old shopping-weight issues-mom cycle of storylines.
