Ripley's Believe It or Not by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for August 10, 2015
Transcript:
The United States did not have a president between 11:35 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. on August 9, 1974. The lapse occurred between Richard Nixon signing his resignation and Gerald Ford being sworn in. 70s rocker! In 1977, during a rocking chair marathon, Maureen Weston of England went without proper sleep for 18 days! Punked payroll! After adding biometric scanning to attendance records in 2009, the city of Delhi, India, discovered 22,853 fake employees on its payroll!

I wonder how many managers got rich off of those fake employees?

A rocking chair rocking contest? How surreal (if that’s the word I’m looking for) can you get even having not had 18 days’ sleep?

Wrong. Ford was the VP. Anytime the pres is incapacitated or whatever, the VP automatically becomes President. The swearing in ceremony is merely for show and political continuity, ie it impresses the peasantry.

I don’t get it… Was Johnson already sworn in before Kennedy’s assassination?? There’s always a gap.

Oh, wow. We were without a president for a whole half hour. Gee-whiz-wilickers, how did this country EVER survive that half hour? God, they put THAT in Ripley’s?!

I am amazed at how often the fallacy comes up that someone can’t be president until sworn in. When the president is incapacitated, the VP automatically becomes president. When Kennedy was shot, Johnson, in the car behind him, suddenly was president, even before he knew it. This little story comes on the heels of that one a few weeks back about the president pro-tem of the senate who slept through this presidency because the new president didn’t want to be sworn in on a Sunday.
It’s a fun concept, but it doesn’t happen that way.

Well, considering the damage the former president did to the country and US prestige in the world, I would consider this one excellent.

Name three things you hate about the current president. Liberals consider him a disappointment but acknowledge a Republican would have been a DISASTER.Of course, in a little over a year, a TRUE liberal will be there.Say it with me:“PRESIDENT SANDERS.”
