The Graevsytes
"Weight Loss Clinic"
"We use the french method, which is so effective that we guarantee you'll lose 10 pounds on your first treatment!"
Mimi: I think we should start making people pay up front.
The first 10 pounds are the quickest, but my no means the last! Dramatic weight loss continues for years thereafter, with absolutely no effort on your part!
(Short-term bloating may occur in the early stages.)
Good, but your strip needas to stick with the girl and her horse Lucy. They’re almost like Calvin and Hobbes….it would make your strip the next Calvin!
Just flagged bbcsee! They don’t learn, do they?
AVOID Jordaner.com (the target of the ow.ly redirection).
Take the ‘Boulder Pledge’ – don’t do ANY business with spammers, EVER!
As for Wiley just sticking with one element or cast of characters, what point is there in that? makes Non Sequitur so great is never knowing what to expect next.
I’m only going to post this on Non Sequitur, instead of every comment board that the spammers are hitting. These are all Chinese spammers (do a tracert on any of the URLs, and they all end at either a DNS server or app server in China). I have read from various sources that the websites are full of spyware and malware (I’ve never gone to one of the sites myself). They are all pushing counterfeit and/or stolen goods. I’ve reported a few of them to the FTC and FCC, but that doesn’t do much good, because they just get another domain name and keep pushing their junk.
USA Today managed to finally get rid of them (the same ones as on gocomics), but I’m not sure how. My suggestion to gocomics would be the same as I made numerous times to USA Today – don’t allow commenting until the user profile is fully filled out, and/or code the commenting software to trace the user’s IP address, and block any user from China from registering. Might help, might not.
As for the spammers, since the “junk shot” didn’t plug the leaking well, how about a “spam shot,” in which we shove all these spammers down the drill hole. Even if it doesn’t stop the flow of oil from the well, it’ll make the world a better place…
As far as the spammers are concerned, what comes to mind is a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack. Don’t know how to do one, and not sure I want to know.
I agree with cleokaya that Wiley strikes a good balance between ongoing continuity (Joe and Danae), occasionally recurring concepts (Obvious-Man, B.E., Homer, etc.) and one-shots. It seems like he’s found a format that allows him to do pretty much whatever type of strip he wants whenever he wants. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anybody else who’s really doing that, let alone pulling it off.
For the Gravesytes in particular, though, a little bit goes a long way for me. It strikes me as sort of a commentary on the “Addams Family” or “Munsters”-type concept, rather than simply an updating of a familiar theme. If they got spun off into a regular strip of their own, it would probably wear thin for me pretty quickly.
(Well, I don’t want to underestimate Wiley: he might very well be able to keep it fresh. But I’ve found the “gruesome giggles” of “Lio” to be a step backwards for Mark Tatulli after “Heart of the City”, even though it’s clearly more of a popular success.)
Death to spammers! Today’s cartoon really relates to a post I just did yesterday on The Family Plot Blog about how obesity increases burial costs. Of course, making someone shorter rather than wider probably won’t help: http://thefamilyplot.wordpress.com/

Wiley does nice set of takes on the stereotypes, but the
Addams Family are a weird take on the stereotype to begin with. Maybe going twice removed doesn’t work quite so well, Fritz.
The real fantasy here is that this obese f@#k was actually interested in losing 10 pounds to begin with! More likely he thought the invite was to an all you can eat buffet… And that shirt!?!?!?!?

So effective, your first treatment is likely to be the only one.

That used to be “how to lose 10 pounds of ugly fat,” but I guess that’s not PC now.

Does flagging do any good? I do it evey time I see one of these on here and they always are there.

Flagging does work, but it takes time. Think of it as hunting.

Hmm, I don’t know. Didn’t seem to work so well for their dad.

Wiley should make the Graevstyle’s a separate and regular strip! We could use a new Chas. Addams.

It might be a problem if they ask people to pay up front, too. The process costs an arm and a leg.

At least I hope noone on this board is dense enough to click on one - so eventually they’ll go for some other target.

A friend of mine is always sayin “I know how you can lose 10 pounds of ugly fat fast - - - lop off your head!” How funny!

After his cardiac arrest from running out of there so fast guarantees he’ll lose weight then.

There’s at least one decapitation pun in there, but it was entirely accidental.
