    Albert’s favorite book is Gullible’s Travels. You have to be naïve if you don’t see that naïveté is misspelled.

    So at least according to thefreedictionary.com it can be spelled different ways. Who knew?…except maybe a con artist!

    I fear the expectation was that “naiveté” would generate more reader mail/complaints than “naivety.” (By the way, Random House Unabridged lists both of those; the umlauted versions are shown as alternate spellings.)
