It all depends on where you live. City schools tend to start later than rural schools from the time when the kids were needed on the farm. I’m a city boy and never started school before Labor Day until I got into college. My niece and nephew live in a small town in Ohio and they’re in school before Labor Day.
August 17 Escambia County Florida..The state legislature has in times passed/past delayed starting until end of August to give Disneyworld summer laborers while busy season..Putting business before children was how the teachers looked at it.

Michigan kids can’t go back before Labor Day. Most start the Tuesday after.
