Is that the Blank’s “face” lying on the floor in front of him? It always looked like some kind of shield on him. At one point, it resembled a slice of Wonder white bread.

Maybe Blank will turn out to be the real Tracy, not the imposter up on that plane. (How’s he going to get down, anyway??)

Apology accepted, Morrow. And I’m sorry for not respecting other people’s right to their opinions. Things will be different from now on. And yes, Dick does look kind of like Eddie Munster today. It could be that sometimes the main artist takes the day off and they have a substitute for him. That’s how Al Capp come up with “Little Abner”. He was substitute for Mug Fisher doing “Joe Plulooker”. When Fisher went out of town, Capp did the strip but didn’t care for Plulooker so he started a new story by having him say: “I wonder how the folkes are back in the hills”. Then he created Abner and the other hillbillies. Needless to say, Fisher didn’t apprecate Capp starting a new strip within his strip. Fisher fired Capp. So Capp started is own strip and the rest is history.

    Klueless Kop Report

    Science Museum Incident (cont’d)

None of the police officers on scene noticed that the intermission was going into its second hour. Like they say, times flies when you’re having fun. We were using our keen observation skills to count the freckles on Detective Sam Catchem’s face. Unfortunately our count – to settle a ten dollar bet – was interrupted when Detective Catchem sneezed due to his allergies. The count was restarted.

One officer did say that he noticed the actor portraying King Pyn was still lying on the stage, a growing pool of blood coagulating around him. It was decided that the performer was a method actor really into his role.

What sounded like gunfire was heard in the distance. It was decided that it was nothing more than the sound of an engine backfiring, either from a passing car on the street or from the German U-boat in the museum’s basement.

    Detective Catchem sneezed again and…

    Yesterday CougarAllen said:

“Then the episode will end, with nothing explained in any rational way, and we will spring into yet another hallucinatory adventure, each one worse than all the others.”

Ah, a fan of Dick Locher’s psychedelic existential nihilism.

Shot in the back but bleeding from the front?

Panel 2 - Tracy is still so scared that his hair is standing on end - hence the Eddie Munster look.

Has anyone noticed that the Blank’s clothing keeps changing color from day to day? Today his pants are black, and yesterday they were white. Or are they merely dark with blood?

Good thing Tracy wears dark clothing so no one can tell that he wet himself.

I think Tracy wants to head down to Arnold’s with RIchie, Potsie, and the Fonz when they’re done with all this “detective” stuff. Then maybe they can all go to a sock hop.

I got the ricochet wrong a few days ago

The bullet knocked the gun out of Johnny’s front pocket, bounced back into his peritoneum from the front (passing through his heart and killing him), then ricocheted off his clavicle through his head, knocking off the mask.

For 4 days we saw the Blank falling face up. Today he has finally landed face DOWN. Did he bounce, or did he roll over to get more comfortable for dying?

It’s amazing how that “make-up” that we were repeatedly told Johnny Nothing was wearing has sloughed off during his fall and is now lying next to him, looking almost like a mask that has fallen off. But we were told over and over, it’s make-up…. I guess that’s what they call “pancake make-up,” huh? You slather it on so thick it’s like having a pancake glommed on to your face? And if you happen to get shot and fall off an airplane it sloughs off and lands next to you and looks just like a pancake? I’ve heard of pancake make-up, but I didn’t know it was like that….

I think Tracy is in the process of disguising himself. While we weren’t looking he slipped into the Men’s and did his hair up to look like Flat-Top, and now he’s trying to make his mouth like Anja Nu’s slot – possibly to influence her into subconsciously treating him like a relative, or more likely trying to look like a robot. Who would shoot a harmless (though ugly) robot?

What will he do next? Put his jacket on inside-out, maybe…. He doesn’t have a lot of resources available there on top of the wing.

It seems the new character in panel 2 is intended to be Dick Tracy and it has been the source of many critiques here today. I hesitate to join in, in fear of offending an old colleague who no longer posts here.

Just two days ago on the DT Yahoo Board he severly scolded me for the same offence for similar expressions. I’m sure he is of a mind to do the same here, so I’ll repeat it for him :

”… why do you expect anything from your complaints? No one else here is joining and calling for Locher’s head on a platter but you. An octanagerian with severe Parkinsons disease is working as hard as as he can each and every day so that you can sample a daily digest of your favorite character and you put him on the spit and roll him over the coals of an open fire everyday here and on go comics … “

Well, I don’t expect any ’response” or ’change’, he doens’t even like to communicate with his readers and hasn’t given an EAR to anyone, not even taking the ADVICE of his mentor Chester Gould on the techniques to write this strip. He has enbarked on significant CHANGE in the strip (a victim of his own impulses) and stubbornly sticks to them.

While I’m a “nothing” in the wider scheme of things who doesn’t know his @ss from his elbow on how comic strips should be produced.

In the meantime, there are two or three who think the whole production is a CLASS ACT ! Miffed perhaps ? And possibly why they have retreated from posting here anymore (?)

Panel two looks like someone’s first attempt at drawing Dick Tracy’s face. Perhaps, as somebody already suggested, Brozman took the day off and a new guy is trying his hand at it. I can’t believe after all these years of drawing Tracy this is the work of Locher and Brozman.

One thing has me puzzled over all of this…

We have been told in the past, mostly by the ones Sydney has termed “The Preatorian Guard”, that the editors at TMS have put huge constraints on the “graphic depiction of violence” in the strip over the years. They say, that’s one of the reasons the strip has been “dumbed down” and is been “juvenilized” for the last few years.

Yet twice in this story, we have been shown panels of dead bodies lying with streams of blood flowing freely from those bodies.

IMO, it just doesn’t make any sense! It may not be like in “the old days” when Chet had bullets whizzing through heads and bodies, but violence is still violence, and showing these “streams” of blood pouring forth from the victim’s lifeless bodies is just as bad, or worse, than any bullet line going in the front of a head and coming out of the back.

It makes me think further, that there really are no editors out there checking this muddle!!!

    Just my 2 cents…

“because i love you tracy and want to have your babies!”

“because i couldn’t stand to see you running, hiding and cowering like a yellow dog!”

“because this is the surprise ending to my play!”

“because this intermission has gone on for too long!”

Sydney, tell ‘em we only want the poor octogenarian with severe Parkinsons disease to stop working as hard as as he can each and every day to bring us this Orwellian drivel. He should sit on the porch in a rocking chair and enjoy a beverage. He can even continue doing his editorial cartooning if he wants to and if anyone wants to read it. Meanwhile someone with a full complement of functioning brain cells can take over Dick Tracy. Everybody wins! Nobody loses!
