Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for August 07, 2015

Transcript:
Man: I guess I don't do much since my wife passed! Sit and stare out the window a lot!
Janis: Lucky for me!
Man: Oh, I see you walk by all the time!
Man: I'm old and depressed, not dead!
Janis: Well, there's creepy and there's creepy!
(1) I like that saying, “You can’t stop the birds from flying overhead, but you don’t have to let them nest in your hair.”
(2) We live in what we used to call a “mixed” neighborhood. Several times a week, my husband walks (or drives, when it’s really hot) to a park a couple of blocks away and does his laps and takes photos, usually of the waterbirds. (Lately, the birds are enjoying lots of rainwater.) My husband has made friends with a lot of the regulars, of various genders and races. He mentioned what seemed to be a depressed old man, who sits in the same place every day with his head down. Jimmy has touched on what seems to be a frequently occurring phenomenon.
