Swimming always looked rather foolish until someone tried doing it in water.
Damn mimes.
The Japanese Samurai had a saying:
“Learning to fight in peace-time is like learning to swim on dry land.”
I guess back then it was the equivalent of planking: something obviously stupid that people did for amusement.

I’ve actually SEEN Swimming classes that started out that way..Doing it in Real Water was the Second Lesson.Most Important part of That 2nd Lesson:“Don’t Inhale when your Head is Under the Water.”
