A new swashbuckling poster from StelBel!!

Who says King Arfur was a legend, anyway?

And we know the rain only falls at night in Basselot. Wish we could do that here.

Stel and Nighthawks keep upping the ante.

We know our every day won’t be complete.

Until we can make comments about Sherpa.

    On Ballard Street.

    Hello all…..

It’s a lovely day, or I’m sure it will be, depending on your time zone, for a beautiful, brand new poster from StelBel!

in the June 11th  2020 “CLEO and COMPANY,” on Sherpa.

It is, as you can see, that extravagant fantasy, of castles and knights, full of music… and forbidden love… in days of yore….

    BASSELOT!

I start humming when I think of it!

With the beautiful, somewhat ethereal (for a basset hound) Pawnessa Redgrrrave … I never can remember how many rr’s in that…

having to choose between her ever-steady royal mate, played by that handsome hound, Dickie Hairies….

And her illicit love for the dashing French knight, played by the equally handsome, Italian basset, Franco Fur-o.

(An aside… Fur-o’s songs, we now know, were actually howled by a similarly Italian-named basset… but one born in the US, Gino Furry-no… who could howl more passably in French.

And just for Montana Lady, who likes these tidbits…

You can still hear him, as one of the voices howling the theme song for “Bassegan’s Island”.)

The film was a mixed success…. at first panned by the doggy critics…. and rather a failure in theaters…

it nonetheless won THREE Golden Biscuits… for the score, the art direction, and the glorious costumes.

The humans did copy the film, of course…

but their English-language poster was different…

Tigressy has already posted it… along with the Belgian one, in French…

They were apparently the only ones to steal Stel’s poster design.

The ad before it is longer, but I found it.

WOW! Stel, you have magnificently outdone yourself! You got all the magic and pageantry of this story, and it comes to life brilliantly. I can hear everyone humming. (sigh)

Susan, I didn’t know about Fur-O howling the theme for Bassegan’s Island. I’ll have to do a search for it and listen. (You know me well. I thrive on movie trivia)

My guess is you put more effort into this than it appears at first glance, mounted knights, etc. Kudos again, StelBel!!!
