Butternut for moisture to hold the dressing together doesn’t sound bad. Not sure about using butternut soup, however.

I’m with Teena that stuffing doesn’t sound very appetizing. Instead of stuffing my mom made a cornbread dressing that was to die for.

I absolutely love stuffing. But it has to be cooked inside the turkey, not on a stove top, and must not have any of the weird things some people think should go in it, like raisins, nuts and NEVER the giblets. Gross. I can’t imagine someone putting soup in it- I would think it would be too wet.

Never was a fan of the inside the bird stuffing. My mom made the driest stovetop dressing known to mankind. I’m pretty sure that I am safe posting this. I don’t think she reads many comics. Love ya mom.

When I was a kid my family had inside-the-bird stuffing, although I didn’t much care for it until I got older. Nowadays it’s said that cooking the stuffing inside the bird is a bad idea. I think it’s because of how poultry is raised and farmed today.

It’s not the ingredients— and spices and herbs that go in— it’s the method.

The people who are bad cooks don’t know how to follow directions about putting the recipe together, and to cook it, or bake it, in such a way so that the dish, or cake, tastes good.

I make a copycat Stovetop recipe… at least loosely :) They don’t have good stuffing here in Australia. Unless USA Foods has it, I just make my own!

I’ve always made my own stuffing, ad libbing the ingredients, but a few years ago I had been distracted by others concerns and realized too late that I was missing the one “necessity”… some kind of bread.

Looking for a substitute in the pantry, I pulled out a box of muesli. In the end, I used that alone, with nothing added, and it worked beautifully!
