I didn’t have a TV in my own bedroom until I was 14, either .. and the one I did get was an old black & white set, which had been in our living room when I was a little kid.
I mostly watched 1950s & 60s sitcoms on ‘Nick At Nite’ at the time, so the lack of color wasn’t an issue.
I never had a TV in my room with my two other brothers. We only had a set of World Book Encyclopedia which provided many hours of entertainment through the years.
