Hmmm… if your first response to a reasoned observation wondering why the Corp. in question doesn’t already have policies in place regarding harassment in the workplace (the first thing I thought of myself when reading the strip) is along the lines of “dry up overbearing drip” how do you manage to read a comic with a gay main character without your head exploding? Not that that’s a bad thing….
Obviously the reason why the company doesn’t have an HR policy against homophobia is because it legally doesn’t have to. Why, as a company, would you create the extra burden of having the potential for more people to lay complaints, when your state and federal legislatures are quite happy for you to say “Shut up you whiny poof, get back to work or nick off” instead? Which is precisely the reason why these protections need to be enshrined in law, to guarantee that all people are treated equally when people can’t be relied upon to do so of their own free will.
Mind you, I’m not sure whether I’m more shocked that Iowa allows gay marriage; or that there are states in the USA without anti-discrimination laws for gays. Truly the USA is a land of contrasts!
(And remember, folks, you too can buy genius for just $12 a year. Hasn’t stopped me losing my car keys, though…)
Wow, talk about harassment and watch both straight and gay panties get all wadded up and itchy!!!
I love that JWF had made Matt (and Robert) into characters in the strip. I love that he is courageous enough to do so knowing the backlash he may get.
It is just a comic strip in the way a movie is just a movie or a book is just a book or an opinion is just an opinion. They have as much power and power of influence as we give them.
Joe, I dont think people get upset with you because of your personal circumstances. They get annoyed because you over share. One of the dangers of the web is that people tend to give out far too much personal information.
I believe it was the Iowa supreme court that allowed gay marriage by declaring the law banning it unconstitutional. The right move in my opinion. Why should the state dictate who marries whom?
Is whom the right word there? I never know when to use whom, but it sounds good. Whom.
I’ve started my weekend early here, so have another beer everybody.

I second that ray, just sit back and enjoy the story. Life ain’t fair (for anyone), which is why reading about it is so cathartic.

But wait! 40 is open for age discrimination? That’s way too young for age discrimination!

I wonder if this is more of that stuff we saw a month or so ago, where folks with some kind of an agenda are just trying to stir up trouble?
I know of no major company that would allow that kind of harassment. Sounds to me like the HR rep is really clueless here. Nice but clueless.

Joe-Allen made an informed, relative and legitimate comment on the current strip, which surely is one purpose of having comments.
But what happens? A bunch of knockers who haven’t got a comment to make on the strip themselves give him a bad time because of it.
