    All the silly rules some companies make up for passwords – all they do is make it impossible to remember and none of those rules add a shred of extra security.

    Except for one rule. Generally, the longer your password is, the more secure it is. Yet some companies put a limit on how long a password can be.

    One of my passwords from the 1990’s was based on the fact that Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 1927: baseball:Ruth60HR1927. That was decades ago and I still remember it, and it’s still a darn good password. That is, until I just spilled the beans.

    Brute force attacks do not blink at mixed case, punctuation, numbers or anything else. Only length matters. An 8 character password takes several seconds to crack.
