My great uncle had to show his birth certificate in order to get a driver’s license. He was 50 at the time, and that presented some difficulty, as he had been born in a log cabin on a prairie farm and his birth had never been registered..(He did finally manage to get a legal birth certificate, but that’s a separate story, and even more bureaucratic.)
