Glad to have Hobbes!

What’s not to like? Because Calvin makes up the rules as they go, every game of Calvinball is completely different from all the ones that preceded it!

Many years ago, after working all night in the L.A. some of us would go the local park to play softball instead of fighting the L.A. traffic. Since there weren’t always enough players to field two teams we made it tackle softball! Lots of fun and no rules!

Pure imagination, nothing better for a kid (and adults too).

Maybe when he’s older he’ll enjoy a nice game of Mornington Crescent.. (not sure anyone outside the UK plays it though)

The “Perimeter of Wisdom”? Now there’s something to ponder…

Calvin Ball – Best game ever!I’m old enough to remember when girls were considered too delicate to play “rough sports” like softball. We weren’t supposed to have the necessary hand-eye coordination or some similar foolishness. For exercise in elementary school when the boys played softball, our teacher gave us (the girls) a soccer ball with very limited instruction - two teams, a goal and “oh, you are not supposed to touch the ball with your hands.”The teacher went off to supervise the boys’ softball game and left us to make up our own rules. Our game became something only remotely resembling soccer.

She should start making rules up. Such as “When she has the ball Calvin has to go to bed”.

Calvin is Republican in the last panel.

I get it now! The “Perimeter of Wisdom” really denotes “Borderline Intelligence”!

I used to have such a great imagination when I was a kid, but it seems I’ve just lost it all the older I get.

Well said, Night-Gaunt, in both your comments. And now that Ros is wise to his game, the game may take some new turns.

Now that Ros has deduced the First Rule of Calvinball, I expect she will prove to be quite adept. Watson! The game is afoot! Or it’s a foot!
