Actually, it doesn’t look half bad.

And kudos tp John for letting the kids help, and being patient with them even when they messed things up. THAT’S what I call being a good dad!

The real kudos to him belong for changing his plans and expectations on the fly to fit the needs of his kids. I think he started out wanting to make a cool model by himself - but as the kids jumped in, he knew what was more important. I have a few projects at home like that – “We’re calling it finished,” is about as far as any of them ever got.

Indeed. Excellent work! (and very hard for me, so I admire it all the more)

If he buys another model, and puts it together in the basement at 2am, 3 years from now, we can’t blame him either.

    Happy Fathers’ Day!

Awwwwww, John had so patient to assembly the model boat with his two kids. After they finished assembling the model boat, I would call it “abstact model boat!” Because it looked not really perfect and neat but it would be so cool to demonstrate pleasantly, sightly and beautifully!

Happy Father’s Day to all Fathers and of course, my Pop in Heaven, too! :-)

HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL DADS I thought it cool for John to let the kids help. Not perfect but they all worked and had fun together. And thank you Ella for not getting mad. As for the spammers we don’t need your commercials on comics sites have to put up with on TV and radio. Do spammers get paid to advertise here? They’ve been on different strips. And thanks Ms. Johnston for having a tribute to dad’s here.

John’s comment about the boat being built by “a committee” reminds me of the saying:

    Q: What’s the definition of a camel ?

    A: A camel is just a horse - designed by a committee.

The kids will always remember getting to spend time with their dad every time they see this model boat.

fbmce, my dad always said that too. He had to work with a lot of committees.

When did John start doing trains in later For Better or For Worse strips?

At least John’s model boat didn’t end up terrible like Calvin’s model fighter jet.

If I recall correctly, Cap’n Eddie’s boat looks pretty much like that before a nor’easter. :^)

It’s wonderful that John let his children help with the model and spend time with them.

But with this being Fathers Day, John should show what being a dad should be. He should allow Michael to help him with all the housework today and serve the women. Fathers Day should be a day for the fathers to wait on their wives and obey them.

    @gaebie -

Either you’re an idiot or you’re a troll.

There are 364 1/4 days where men “need” to wait hand and foot on the women in their lives. Fathers’ day is not one of them.

Hey look, I can be a troll too!

gaebie, just wondering if you’re serious. The dude works - I’m betting 50-60 hours a week if he’s like most of us. Then he comes home and undoubtedly does chores – if he’s like the rest of us – which include cooking and cleaning and repairing. Now, I’m not sure I even think Father’s and Mother’s Days are worth having (just an excuse to sell stuff, mostly, and I’m a father), but for Pete’s sake, to make it a day to serve women? Wait on their wives and obey them? We don’t do OBEY for either spouse EVER. And if it’s a day to honor people, you don’t do so by abusing them.

I do get so tired of those who think working outside of the home is somehow easier than working at home.

@cdward, people think outside the home is easier because:

A man works from sun to sun; A woman’s work is never done.

@fbmce, I think that definition was made by someone who was familiar with horses but not with camels.

50 to 60 hours a week? Dentists work 4 days a week, 9-5, one night a bit later if you’re lucky. 40 hours at the most. The wife works 24 hours a day, every day. If she gets a few hours off, she’s still on call, and he gives her work appliances as Christmas and Birthday gifts. John never does anything extra. The few times he did, he complained just like she always does. We just saw how he is so lazy and thoughtless that he won’t even change the toilet paper when he uses the last of it.

Iris, I see you understand what I am saying. Men don’t work hard enough these days and expect to be waited on. Many marriages are changing now though. Men are realizing their wives are worth serving.

More men today are taking over the housework when they get home from work so their wives are able to go out with the girls, etc.

Many women on this group properly criticize John for being lazy, but this strip was 30 years ago, times have changed today and now you would see John worshiping Elly 24/7.

Those are the office hours when they see patients. They also have to do their business management outside those hours, and attend courses and seminars to keep up their training and comply with their licenses. You can’t just graduate from dental school and not have to train any more.

Not to underestimate what homemakers do, but some of their time is ‘flex time’. They can get a little personal time during the day, even if it is frequently interrupted.

I’ve been on both sides of that coin. The argument is petty and useless. You can choose to be happy with what you are doing and make it work. More than likely, if you are disgruntled with that side of it, you would be with the other side, too.

Hey - I was a divorced mom through much of my kids’ life (and wished that my kids realised that I was also “dad” since the abusive jerk wasn’t even paying the miserable $76 a wk child support and I felt I held BOTH positions for our 4 kids! But this is STILL Father’s Day (not for moms) and I just contacted the 2 of my sons who each have some of my GREAT grandkids to let them know I’m proud (I forwarded the Daddy’s Home to show them how I feel).

Well this feminazi thinks John had more than the right attitude and demeanor with his kids on Father’s Day. We cater to mom on Mother’s Day – dad deserves the same on his day and he made some sacrifices to accomodate 2 little kids – not to mention keeping them out of mom’s hair for a couple of hours. Very nice tribute to Dad’s Day!!
