I don’t think cows have a natural drive to mate anymore, if we didn’t guide them to breed they would simply go extinct. If we stopped eating meat but didn’t want our livestock species to die out we would be morally obligated to breed back at least some of their wild instincts so they could survive.
I am gradually becoming a vegetarian. I went to McDonald’s for lunch a few months ago and got a Quarter Pounder with cheese. When I started to eat I wondered how many animals are slaughtered everyday to supply fast food and other restaurants and I couldn’t finish it. It just made me sick. Not putting other carnivores down it is just how I am feeling and thinking these days. Peace.
Yaks were endangered until it was discovered they could be cross-bred with cows, resulting in a hardier animal that produces leaner, healthier meat… plus Fleece! Next thing you know, Yak herds were popping up all over the place, ‘starter herds’ going for ~$25K.

If your sister marries a cow, is that an interspecies lesbian relationship? (Cows are female. Males are called bulls.)

Yeah the numbers would go DOWN because there wouldn’t be as much demand so not as many would be forcibly impregnated…
