Ha! Some dream girl Trudy turned out †o be! The minute she finds out I'm in sixth grade, she BAILS!
I guess I'm not MATURE enough for her! I guess I'm just a little KID!
I guess I'll go home and cry into my blankie.
This makes me sad, because I know that even if she claimed the age difference didn’t bother her, it would eventually get to her, and Nate would be even more hurt.
Soo is this going to continue next week or is it the current end of this story? Since it was allready stated there would be more twists to it, as such this is in no way the end of their relationship. Anyways shame it had to be the “sitting in silence” ending for now.
A brief history of Nate Dates:Girl #1: Angie. Meets Nate in summer school, where he lies about being a tutor. She gets over it and they start dating. Shares many interests with him. She eventually breaks up with him when she falls for another guy.
Girl #2: Kelly. Met Nate at soccer camp. Goes to Jefferson Middle School. While dating Nate, she gets a cat, offers him figure skates, and reveals she likes egg salad (I think). Nate eventually breaks up with her on the back of a detention slip because Jenny is available. This infuriates her. She has not been seen since.
Girl #3: Trudy (Gertrude). Met Nate on a fair ride. Met up with him again at school. Finds out her name and that she’s in seventh grade. When she learns that Nate’s in sixth grade, she becomes hesitant, prompting Nate to think she doesn’t like him. Will this romance stop before it even starts? Find out next time!
this must REALLY be true love because the sayin is, "when you love someone, let ‘em go. " NOW the question is, will Trudy come back for Nate? If she does (PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEASE) that means she loves him, even though he’s younger. If she doesn’t, (NO, NO, NOOOOOOOOOOO) that means she doesn’t love Nate back. Also, i don’t think there is true love between Nate and Jenny, ‘cause Nate can’t let Jenny go. And when he does, Jenny doesn’t care. NOW NATE’S FOUND ANOTHER GIRL AND I REALLY HOPE THAT TRUDY CAN MAKE UP!!!!!! NATE NEEDS something GOOD IN HIS LIFE! He’s got nothin’ but bad things ( except Francis and Teddy. ) He’s got:
A.Mrs. Godfrey (I seriously shouldn’t have to explain her.)
B. Gina, the stuck-up snob who is the TOTAL OPPOSITE of Nate AND his arch-enemy!
C.Jenny who DOESN’T LOVE HIM!!! How could you, Jenny
D.Detentions, oooh…tsk tsk. Girls may like “bad boys” but a world/school record of seven detention slips? That might go on his perm. record.
E.Mr. Wright (Nate’s dad). The snoring, overweight, bad-joke-telling, father-of-nate is not the greatest guy in the world. Plus, he keeps telling Nate to be healthy and HE’s the one who’s, you know.
F.Ellen Wright. Self-centered. Annoying. Horrible-excuse-for-a-sister Ellen Wright. (there could have been more descriptions but this comment is already long.)
G.The worst of all:Trudy. She DUMPED NATE just because he’s a YEAR YOUNGER! UGGGGGH!!!! I’M PULLING OUT MY HAIR BECAUSE OF YOU, GERTRUDE!!!!!!
“….because, Nate Wright, seventh-grade girls don’t go with sixth-grade boys.” (with apologies to F. Scott Fitzgerald. original: Daisy explaining to a broken-hearted Jay Gatsby why she destroyed their love by marrying someone else: “…because, Jay Gatsby, rich girls don’t marry poor boys.” Heartbreaking.)
Nate is showing his maturity by walking away on his own terms. If she comes back to him and says it’s not that big of a deal after all, so much the better. He didn’t wait to get outright rejected. He is chasing her until she catches him.
I fully understand Nate’s frustration. They “click”, he thinks he’ll never see her again. Then she shows up at is school and he’s ecstatic. But she is hesitant. Why should he wait until she rejects him? If she was as interested, she would not be hesitant.
Maybe the thought of hanging with “an underclassperson” (sounds like Orwellian Newspeak, that!!) never really occurred to her before today, because she likely hadn’t been confronted with it in “parochial” school?

Thing is, all of Nate’s previous girlfriends had a rocky start, so this might not be the end for Trudy.
