Why does the byline say Mastroianni and Hart? That’s the current credit, for the new strips.

According to Wiki, the Launch date was February 17, 1958; so I’d say this was the first one…

1958 was a centennial year in British Columbia. When they announced the start of the B.C. comic strip I thought it was going to be about the province’s history!

I’ve always been able to tell BC from Peter by the fact that Peter has a cowlick. The first BC collection I ever had was called “Back to B.C.”

Bring on my fav…..Clumsy Carp! The accident always waiting to happen.I had a poster in our Army maintenance bay back in 73.It was BC looking a leaf on a branch below him.He plucks the leave. The branch slams into his jaw.The saying we had printed under it…..“If you don’t know what it does don’t mess with it”of course the language for us was a bit stronger.

When comparing original and current, it is interesting to note how the beards on the early strip are quite different than today. I suspect the current “style” might be easier to draw quickly…

This “new” comic was also announced on the GoComics blog at http://blogs.gocomics.com/2015/09/new-comic-alert-classic-bc-by-mastroianni-and-hart.html . I asked there about why Mastroianni’s name was there. Doubt I’ll get an answer, though. Possibly it’s because he owns the rights to the strip now, so he can do whatever he wants. But it does seem a bit presumptuous to say the least.

BC is a fathead? Did they rip that off from Peanuts? Well, at least I get to read the original ones that don’t talk about current events.

No matter how far back you go, B.C. is an excellent, funny strip! It’s been around for so long, it almost refutes the theory of evolution! Thanks Johnny Hart and Mastroianni for all the laughs.

jpresThe LA Times is where I first read both strips too. I was a Soph. in College and we thought it was cool to read comics and discus them. I’m still doing it!

I hope we get to see the strips (eventually) with Anno Domini. I never got to see them first run.

This would have also have been a Beetle Bailey strip with Beetle writing “Sarge is a Fathead” on the wall.

Greetings from the future! Wow, 1958. BC is even older than I am! Not by much though.
