I think Neutral Good for Batman… NG will work within the law, as long as the law is fair; however, he will eventually act in accordance with his own conscience.
I posted this over at the Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition off-topic forum, because we have had at least a dozen threads over there arguing about this very topic. I think the posters there will get a kick out of it. I hope that’s okay.
My two cents: Batman cannot be lawful, as basically everything he does, whether via assault, (enhanced) interrogation, or blatant disregard for property laws, says that he considers them guides at best. He does, however, generally turn people in for their due process once he’s finished with them, and usually does things for the betterment of his city, or the world at large. Neutral Good.
It depends on what definition of “Lawful” you follow. If you are of the belief that someone who is lawful could also be following a personal code of conduct (as described in the D&D Eberron setting) then Batman is Lawful 95% of the time. (Different writers do different things with him.)
If you believe being Lawful means following the law, the Batman is Neutral at best. He obeys high-level laws, but by definition Vigilantism is illegal…..
Even the Good can be argued, depending on who is writing him.

Should I be glad that I have no idea what this means or is about?

Yup. Maybe the caption should identify you as a geek if you have any idea what the conversation is about!

I live in a divided household. My husband and daughter are RPG fans and I am a D & D fan. I understood the comic as well as the comments. :o)

Neutral good in most versions; chaotic evil when penned by Frank Miller (and, I’m betting, by Zack Snyder).

Chaotic good. He does good but only by breaking the law, which is why he can’t be lawful good.
