I prefer a multi-bean salad. Lots of color there.

    To Alexikakos:

… and when your garden salad is ready to serve, don’t forget to gently place on top a couple (many!) bright flowers of nasturtium (in summer) or tender stems and leafs of ice plant as second best (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) for adding a touch of joyful French flair and surprise ! Both can be easily grown in your garden.

Next time, your guests will call again for the nasturtium thrill !

I thought Blanching a salad made it paler.

I usually ate my chef salad while reading ~ or read while eating..One time I decided to tease the waitress by staring at it as if there were something wrong..The problem was that it was crawling with little beetles.(By the way, beetles are kosher, unlike the ham, but I’m not Jewish, so I only wanted the ham for my meat.).I wonder what I ate all those other times.

I think a salad with slices of rare grilled steak, maybe some well cooked dark meat chicken or turkey, some thin slices of ham, sliced hard boiled eggs, a few pieces of cooked bacon, maybe some Canadian bacon, ladle in a can of warm Boston baked beans, a few pieces of Swiss and Colby cheeses, and top it off with some crisp croutons!

Oh yeah, some cherry tomatoes and lettuce if needed, topped by a generous amount of Thousand Island or Bleu Cheese dressing!

    Wow, I’m getting hungry…
