With nothing to do, is the old man going to drink himself to death?

Fix it. Give him a responsibility. Have him help by using his marketing skills. He worked long enough to know what works and what doesn’t.

He seems depressed. I’ve heard retirement can do that to some people. I hope he finds a hobby or a project he can do. My parents retired and so they fill their days cycling, gardening, and exploring new sites in their state.

Gus will snap out of it, once ML and Gene invite him to participate in the running of the farm (the business side of it).

It could be the opening stages of profound memory loss. In our group, some of my compatriots are really losing track – may ask the same question within the span of a couple of hours, or can’t find their way around in a car at night. (The 93-year-old and his 87-year-old sister are still sharp as tacks.) I had a first cousin who died of Alzheimer’s recently at age 75.

I am confused as well, but I guess this is her father. Boy, he got gray fast, among other problems.

Hmm. I’d say we may be on the start of an alzheimers track here.

Looks like Pops might be moving in with the kids and helping with the farm.

I will be sure to make sure my dad keeps busy when he retires next year. Pops needs a hobby.

I’m older’n Gus. Running a Guf’ Coast restaurant can be wearing on a man, if anyone can remember Biloxi in the ’50’sand Gus Stevens Seafood Restaurant (and Buccaneer Lounge) and Barney’s Hideaway et al..If Gus is ‘winding down’ it’s because of ‘nothing to do-itis’ and I’ll admit that it’s easier to have a few during the day, for doing it at night is a rather useless cause here in FL, unless one wants the notoriety of a DWI arrest. Senility gets us all, despite the news articles about “Lily Forester,” age 110, sharp as a tack and other anomalies, Al’s Heimers strike us down far more often, causes unknown, but in this bullet-riddled ride of life, who’s to determine who will get it and who will ride right up to the “time’s up” sign? (“DING!”) ‘…all passengers will please disembark……………’

That’s a depressingly institutional looking door and room. I’m with the crowd that hope working with the kids will give Gus a new lease on life!
