@Lewreader I’d have to disagree. Pair of shoes indicates ONE pair, Katy asking how many pairs is indicating she’s planning to bring several so the plural form is right. (ie if you’re bringing a pair of black heels and a pair of navy flats you have two pairs.)

I don’t know how guys can only do with one pair of shoes. We NEED flats and heels in black, brown, white, cream, eggshell, navy and those are just the BASICS! All guys need is a pair of black loafers and they’re good to go. sigh

I agree when you’re talking about more than one pair that it should be pairs of shoes.

But would you say a couple pairs of shoes, or a couple OF pairs of shoes?

I’m with you Keltii, I hate shoe shopping. I have several pairs of trainers, one pair of sandals, and one pair of heels. I know that makes me deficient as a female in the shoe department but I can live with that.

Do people actually say “OMG?” It’s really easier to say the words than the letters. (Same number of syllables, but less muscle exertion.)

“Pair” can be pluralized either as “pairs” or as “pair.” Look it up!

So, I’m curious, @Lewreader. Since this is a regional/dialect sort of thing, where are you from?
