As a mom of a boy, and been around plenty of my friend’s girls; I’d take the boys running around playing make believe than girls fussing about their hair and which guy is cuter. (oh Edward is so handsome, no Jacob is hotter). The last trip to the movies with a van full of girls about drove my poor husband nuts.
@newworldmozart - I haven’t gotten to that stage yet with my girls. They still tell endless stories with their toys, which I think is adorable. But you remind me of friends who have 4 boys and have just found out they’re pregnant with a girl. They are thrilled, but I just want to tell them that raising girls is totally different and not to expect the same as their boys. Another friend raised 6 boys and 1 girl and said the boys were so much easier.
I have 2 sons, one with 3 daughters, the other with 1 son. The girls with the high pitch sceams while they play gives me shivers.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the girls,( 5-6-7) but…I’m glad I had boys.
The noise, the chaos, the screaming, yelling, barking, etc. She didn’t stop the kids from doing any of that or having fun. It just gets to you after a while. When your sweetie gets home it’s nice to just put your face into the front of his shirt and say Ahhhhh! He is not there to fix it or anything, it’s just nice to get a small hug and then go on dealing with everything.
This was my favorite kind of game when I was a kid. Get some kind of role-play action fantasy going and whoop it up with some friends for a whole day sometimes. But it’s more fun outside. Indoors you just keep getting yelled at.
There’s some good drawing in this strip. Lots of playful energy, vitality. Happy kids. Happy dog. Nice to just sit and look at.
I help with Kids Land at my church nearly every Sunday.
it’s amazing how much more different the boys are then the girls. The boys want to be done with their arts stuff, and go play with Lego, or cars or something more ‘fun’, and most of the girls want their stuff to be ‘perfect’. Now, a lot of the girls are getting up in age (5, 10 etc) and they are worried about their hair! LOL
Kids are awesome, especially when they ain’t mine! (I have none)
what if you have a girl who doesn’t want to bother about hair or which boy is most attractive, but thinks the boys are having more fun, and wants to play with them?
Oh please…this is nothing! I used to do this with my brother and friends all of the time when I was a kid, and we didn’t break anything. My mom was probably very happy that we could amuse ourselves very easily while she did other stuff she needed to do. Elly is such a lightweight!
As for boys being boys and girls being girls…I was a well rounded girl. I liked to read and play barbies and in the mud, ride dirt bikes, play video games and do my hair and make up. I don’t see why little kids have to be shoved into his and hers boxes. It’s sad to see that there are people who think this should still happen. Let your kids be kids!
RinaFarina: I know this is a little late and you may never see if; but to answer your question. I was that girl, had lots more fun running around with my little brother and his friends. I really lot that dress were wimpy and hated having my hair done. I used to laugh at girls that would go on and on about breaking a nail. until I turned 17 (yes really 17) then I started dressing more like a girl (kind of) Now days I’m married with a son, and still like jeans and a t-shirt over skits and blouses.

Lewreader, Yeah, that’s RIGHT! BOYS WILL BE BOYS! and of course, GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS, TOO!
I am so lucky because I do not have any kids anyway. :-)

Lewreader, you’re right. And, there’s no amount of pop-psychology or feminism that can ever change that.

@azlilsis and @ocean17, I agree, the drawing and the colours are very free and relaxed. Lovely to look at.

This is just the way childhood ought to be. Too bad so little of this seems to be going on these days.
