I’m not certain…could this be among the strips that newspapers like the LA Times didn’t have the guts or integrity to print?

Hey, Ronnie had his priorities.

In reply to those yesterday who say that we should not react to the mass shooting aftermath in a political way: if we sit on our hands and do nothing, that is a political act too. In my opinion, we have blood on our hands in the US because we have not acted. Politics is everyone’s business, participate or not, vote or not, enact laws or not. You can’t say you don’t want to do anything about a problem and claim that is nonpolitical. It is and will be political either way.
montessoriteacher about 9 years ago
The US does not have a monopoly on mental illness. Why aren’t they having mass shootings in these other countries where they also have mental illness? Hmmm… While I agree that mental illness is a problem that should not be ignored, it is clearly not all that needs to be addressed.
montessoriteacher about 9 years ago
I also don’t think it is about jumping on the latest bandwagon. We have been dealing with this issue of mass shootings coming around every week now since the mid 1990’s. That is far too long already.

If 20 little kids shot dead in Connecticut isn’t enough to change the NRA, what could be?

The interesting things is that Sinatra was a dyed in the wool Democrat until JFK ticked him off. Frank busted his hump working the Kennedy campaign and setting up that big birthday bash for JFK, who was then supposed to visit him at his CA home. He went crazy prepping the property and even had a helipad installed for the President’s arrival. However, Bobby and others closed to the President talked him out of the visit because of Sinatra’s mob associations. Frank was so infuriated that he destroyed the helipad with a sledgehammer. And that was the end of Peter Lawford in the “Rat Pack” because Lawford was JFK’s brother-in-law at the time and couldn’t get JFK to change his mind.

And of course, Trudeau would be angry if anyone made an “Obama – Bill Ayers” reference, because, after all, that’s not fair…
montessoriteacher about 9 years ago
Obama did not have a close relationship with Bill Ayers. He did teach at the same university. If everyone had to disassociate him or herself from anyone with a questionable past from their place of employment, it would be quite problematic. Ayers was in the Weather Underground in the late 70’s. Obama was born in 1961. Obama was nowhere near Chicago during the 70’s, and even if he had been there, what is this guilt by association? I would never fault Jeb Bush as a druggie simply because his daughter was an addict, yet, Obama had to have been responsible for the actions of Bill Ayers when Obama was a teen and several thousand miles away. Right. Obama haters are pathetic.

The mafia is kind of a special case. Once you associate with them, it is pretty hard to extricate yourself, as has been well documented. You either have to get away in a coffin or witness protection, otherwise you belong to the mob.

Typical Trudeau, uses anything to try and smear anyone whose political views go against his. Been doing it for over 30 years now.

night-g, I agree regarding convincing people to fight in Europe, but would like to point out that without conscription there is a very good chance Hitler would have conquered the world and exterminated many, many more millions of people ~ ultimately and most importantly including us. The reasons to resist him and people like him were valid even if normal people weren’t convinced such evil existed.

From Business Insider:.…Since 2005, the gun industry and its corporate allies have given between $20 million and $52.6 million to it through the NRA Ring of Freedom sponsor program. Donors include firearm companies like Midway USA, Springfield Armory Inc, Pierce Bullet Seal Target Systems, and Beretta USA Corporation. Other supporters from the gun industry include Cabala’s, Sturm Rugar & Co, and Smith & Wesson..The NRA also made $20.9 million — about 10 percent of its revenue — from selling advertising to industry companies marketing products in its many publications in 2010, according to the IRS Form 990. .Additionally, some companies donate portions of sales directly to the NRA. Crimson Trace, which makes laser sights, donates 10 percent of each sale to the NRA. Taurus buys an NRA membership for everyone who buys one of their guns. Sturm Rugar gives $1 to the NRA for each gun sold, which amounts to millions. The NRA’s revenues are intrinsically linked to the success of the gun business..The NRA Foundation also collects hundreds of thousands of dollars from the industry, which it then gives to local-level organizations for training and equipment purchases. …

Even if it were true that we had just as many mass shootings in the 1950s, this does not make it acceptable in any way.

This is one of the reasons I’ve never taken “The Presidential Medal of Freedom” seriously. For most recipients, it’s just “the president’s friend award.”

marzipANn@DavidHuieGreen“Why do you not address the question of how today’s gun control laws and suggested reforms thereof relate to the well-regulated militia for which the right to bear arms was a necessity?”.Because a right does not belong to a militia but to a person. .You are just trying to get people to join some crazy militia when you pretend only THEY have the right to keep and bear arms..Militias can and should be regulated.. Rights which are forbidden to be infringed can not be regulated or they could be regulated out of existence.. It would be like having freedom of speech but only as allowed by law or freedom of press as long as you only print what they permit or freedom of religion as long as you follow the doctrines approved by law. .That isn’t freedom or rights.
. The Supreme Court has rightly ruled the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right, just like all the other listed rights and was always intended to be. (Not the right to murder, but until a crime has happened or been threatened, the government can’t preemptively take away your rights.).The Bill of Rights was not written to make the federal government stronger, but to limit its power over the people, lest it become a tyranny. (They were paranoid, but were they paranoid enough?)

Tarredandfeathered @DavidHuieGreen“Yet another answer Glossing Over the FACT that the Constitution SAYS that Congress is Supposed to Regulate Guns.”.Creative reading of “shall not be infringed”???
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace about 9 years ago
(By the way, it is interesting that the second amendment doesn’t limit itself to Congress and is therefore a limitation on state powers over that right as well. It didn’t require the 14th Amendment to extend that right to the state level so that all citizens retain that right, not just those favored by the administration in power at the moment. When the states approved the Bill of Rights, they accepted the limitation on themselves. They didn’t realize it, but the wording does so state..Also, there were other arms than just muskets. Shotguns for example. Courts have long ruled weapons with military applications are covered..I don’t want anybody to go on a killing spree but those who pretend the limitations on the powers of government over the lives of the people don’t exist even when they are written down, are far more dangerous since they have great power, organization and reach. .People who say “shall not be infringed” really means “SHALL be federally regulated” are intentionally lying or are dangerously out of touch with reality and shouldn’t be allowed to have knives, clubs, bazooka, swords, rocks or other devices with which they could do harm. Perhaps we should amend the Constitution and remove that from The Bill of Rights.)
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace about 9 years ago
It occurs to me that some people may not understand the concept of sequence..
The Constitution as originally written gave Congress powers to regulate individuals in the militia. Some feared this would give them unlimited power over individuals and weapons. Several states insisted the Constitution be limited in such a way that there could be no doubt Congress could not infringe on the rights of people to keep and bear arms. .All states approved the amendment to the original..Whenever an amendment conflicts with the original, the amendment rules ~ not the original..That shouldn’t be hard to understand. The only reason they don’t accept it, is because they don’t like the implications..By amendment, voting age was lowered to 18.Rights guaranteed in the Constitution were extended to lower governments.Slavery was ended.Alcoholic beverages were outlawed.Alcoholic beverages were inlawed.Senators were picked by direct election. The President was limited to 2 terms. The Vice-president was not the runner-up for President. The right to keep and bear. . . .
