No, Dick, they wouldn’t have needed to do a convincing job of acting if they had been the ones getting shot at – because they are cops. They would have drawn their guns and arrested the criminal, or if necessary shot him. That’s what cops do.
In all fairness to Tracy, yf you were unarmed and someone with a gun was trying to kill you, what would you do? Try to face him down? Take him on bare-handed? No!! You woukd run just like anybody that didn/t have death-wish.
Man, this entire storyline’s set a new low for the strip. Tracy acting like a coward, being saved by accident, villains with questionable at best motives…
I actively miss the nudists. At least THEY were memorable.
It’s “YOURS”, not “YOUR’S”! And you call yourselves professional journalis… Oh, never mind.
———————————————————–
Wow, how did I miss that?
All day long I see idiots on the Internet who can’t get the difference between “your” and “you’re” straight, but his is a new one. “Yours” with a possessive apostrophe inserted for no apparent reason.
Amazing.
I’m gonna have to alert the folks who run the Extraneous Apostrophe blog.
Yesterday I had asked about what I referred to as a fax machine in the background in Panel 2. Why did I bring it up?
Sunday, July 18: The caption reads “The lobby of the Science Museum.” Apparently this discussion takes place after Tracy’s speech on Saturday to the audience about what had happened. Tracy, Sam, and Liz are just taking up “too much space” explaining the same details again.
Monday, July 19: No caption. Tracy and Liz about still repeating the same details. “Fax machine” in panel 1.
Tuesday, July 20: Panel 1 caption: “Police Headquarters.” “Fax machine” in panel 2.
Oh, so we’re now back at Police Hootrs, huh? And that “fax machine” seen yesterday wasn’t in the Science Museum, it was actually back at PH.
It’s called TRANSITION, Mr. Locher and Mr. Brozman. Please try it sometime.
And if that unit in the background is supposed to be a computer printer, then Police Hootrs should get some new equipment instead of using an old dot matrix with the perforated sheet feed.
Must be serious budget problems with the Naperville PD. Do they still use VDT monitors with the green letters on a black background? Maybe they type up their reports using Kaypros.
Looking back at this play storyline, I think it was an attempt to bring back vaudeville. They succeeded but the action still needed some seltzer water in the pants.
No excuse for the grammatical error. On Sundays, he tries to teach the young’uns and during the week, he’s teaching them something that might cost them as they grow up. Sad.

Ah, a fellow grammar nerd! I always knew Iliked you, FS. I love the Extraneous Apostrophe folks. I assume you’ve also seen The “blog” of “Unnecessary” quote marks?
I thought the fax machine in yesterday’s strip was a box of tissues.
They had better start that new storyline soon, before the homeless person in Sunday’s strip starves to death.
Just where is Tracy in panel two? His word cloud (complete with extraneous apostrophe) seems to be coming through that window… or picture frame…. or video monitor… or whatever that rectangular thing over the mysterious device might be…
As for the mysterious device, I don’t think it’s anything electronic at all. I think it’s just a big cardboard box stuffed with papers and index cards–Naperberry’s state-of-the-art data storage and retrieval system.
Sam only gets uglier and Liz gets prettier. I finally
found out (by staying up all night in Honolulu) that
Dick Tracy kicks in on my computer from gocomics.com
at 5:50am.
Every day, this terrible strip gets posted here and is almost universally slammed by the handful of people who still bother to read it. The few newspapers that still carry it are themselves struggling, and it’s doubtful this drek is doing anything to draw subscribers. So I keep on wondering…WHY does TMS allow it to continue in this pathetic fashion?
I hate to come on and rip on the work of a cartoonist, but there is obviously so little talent or passion or even giving a bleeep here.

OK, so…
Maybe the next story arc will begin around mid-August?
And yeah, Tracy does a mighty fine impersonation of terrified worm-like coward.
Must be all those acting classes he took at Naperville City College in is youth.

VistaBill, it looks to me like one of those cheap printers that cost less than the ink cartridges.

Maybe Locher’s writing would improve if someone shot at him.
