    I once told my kids how I had to use a slide rule for physics class. After explaining what a slide rule is, one asked, “So you couldn’t afford ten dollars for a calculator?” Try explaining that at $20 for a slide rule, it was still cheaper than $200 for a calculator, and that in 1970’s dollars.

    The past is a strange and unknown world to kids. Show them a late ‘20s or early ’30s movie for the telephones and cars. They still won’t understand that radios did not come on immediately (always do, in movies), and why there are no TVs.
