I also love snow, fine white snow. But unfortunately it becomes always warmer and we don’t have snow every winter!! Perhaps we will have white Christmas this year, but it doesn’t look so!!
Oh, but scrunching down under the covers all warm and snuggly listening to the elements. This was one of my greatest pleasures as a kid. Still is, come to think of it. I drive, but I don’t have to if I don’t want to. Just a bit of fortune in my life!
When I was 9, I walked thru it, to serve 5AM mass, in the dark, fasting, in Boston. Next, had to shovel their driveway. Then, walk home for breakfast. Now, I’ m old, & live in Phoenix. No more snow, except in the mountains.
Being mostly retired in a town about one mile square, I love when we have weather. Hoping to get dumped on this winter but so far everything seems to be staying further north.
I never saw Calvin age in the ten years that the strip ran, in defiance of the marking of birthdays and Christmases. But in spite of the appeal of the eternal childhood, I think I could see a 17 year old Calvin working on his street machine, a tiger tail hanging from the rearview mirror…
I think attitudes towards snow change as you get older. When my wife and I were younger, we wouldn’t hesitate to pull the snowmobiles out and take off for an afternoon of riding. When our girls were old enough to ride on their own, and were certified to ride, we bought them machines and all four of us would go out; if not at home, somewhere else including S Dakota, Michigan, Iowa, etc.
Our girls are now married and there are at least two grandchildren who are old enough to ride on their own up at the Mille Lacs cabin. Now that we are a bit more senior, my wife and I still enjoy winter; but it is not the same as it was years ago…
The unique quiet that snow makes woke me up when i was young..Look out the window, and see the six foot drifts against the home next door was a sight, then i’d tune my small clock radio next to the bed to the am station that announced the school closures.,When i heard my school, i’d yip in delight. put on warm clothes and overwear, get the old truck innertube and air pump from the garage and go tubin’ on the 5-block long hill street around the corner.

You said it, Calvin. Of course, here where I live, there are no such things as sleet, ice and snow. So much for those small pleasures! :(

When the ice takes down the power lines and there’s no TV – or lights – it isn’t as much fun, as a return to those thrilling days of yore.

What I like about snow is that it is somewhere else, not at my house. Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing I like about snow.
