Growing up, we were taught that we shouldn’t use words that we couldn’t spell correctly. That worked well for me.

I have churchyard-cough as my word today (forgotten English calendar)
I’ve always loved learning new words… but Trout is right. If you add a word to your vocabulary, it becomes natural to use it when it is the right word… and then certain others think that you are showing off.
