I know they’re trying to poison me! Just for that, I’ll go and pee in their shoes.

My first Springer ‘Fern’ was very food fussy and would routinely spit tablets concealed in food but she would take them with a cheese ‘bribe’. At a Shooting Fair we were looking at some hi tech dog food and the suited rep was keen for her to try despite my advise she would probably reject the offering. She duly took a mouthful rolled it round thoughtfully like a wine expert savouring the bouquet then theatrically spat the whole lot out onto his suede shoes – to the amusement of a tent full of dog owners.

Reading these comments makes me feel mighty lucky. My dog scarfs everything down (without chewing a lot of times, I think) so she hardly even knows there is a pill there. If I’m eating it then she wants some, too, so she gets the last bite of everything. My vet says it’s part of the pack mentality: the alpha dog (that’s me) shares with all the members of the pack.

I too am fortunate that my pooch eats just about everything I give him by hand or bowl. Now my cats are another thing….

I put the pill in some cheese and have a second piece of chese ready to feed her. she is so focussed on the second peice of cheese, that she gulps the first cheese and pill, and then I give her the second one. I don’t think she is fooled, I think she figures it is worth it for the second peice.
