Earthshare chimes in for the Gulf and “DH”! Another great website and organization. People who save the planet… also nice!

Washing with detergent is not so good for feathers either. My cockatoo got rather soiled from my makeup and sometimes stuff she “got into” in mischief, but I always tried to clean her mostly with pure water.
@vldazzle: I’ve been following the rescue efforts and have learned that a diluted mixture of Dawn dish liquid is mixed with water. (This was also used during the Exxon Valdez crisis.) Apparently the mixture loosens the oil residue without causing undue harm to the animals, although it is still a pain-staking process. I’m just thankful we have ANY means of saving some of the wildlife injured by this tragedy.
