Sluggo: Are you praying in class?
Nancy: Yup! I'm praying I know the answers on the tests! And I'm praying that if I don't....Aunt Fritzi doesn't find out till AFTER she does the Christmas shopping!
Here we go again. Nancy, as well as every student in every public school has the right to pray whenever they want to, as long as they don’t interfere with school activities. There are NO laws that prohibit prayer in public schools.
A young boy in my family recently said “Bless you” when a fellow student sneezed in class. For that he was sent to the principals’ office and scolded. Seriously!
Sorry, I won’t make this into a long dialogue, but the coach forced no one. The event that got him fired was when he went solo to the field to pray after the game. His own team decided to follow him, and then the other team did the same, as did several fans. He coerced no one. And he was fired.
I have said too much, and will say no more. If you want to respond, I will graciously give you the last word.
Think I’m exaggerating about mandatory Jesus? A number of years ago, former Senator Don Nickles (R-OK) was asked if he would support a law making it mandatory for all children in American public schools to begin each day with a prayer praising Jesus. The senator said he would totally support such a law because ‘that was the ultimate goal of the school prayer movement". Want a more current reference? Just listen to Donald Trump ranting about the plague of ’happy holidays’ and calling for mandatory Merry Christmas. I have no more to say and will graciously give the last word to whoever wants to reply.

I thought it was that America doesn’t let one group force its religion on others, in school

I was going to make a pithy comment here, but the folks who get up earlier than I do seem to have taken care of that for me…

Actually, it is teacher-led prayer that is not allowed. Any student can pray publicly anytime as long as they don’t disrupt class.

While I agree, profanity is not appropriate, either on GoComics or most especially this strip.

Hey that’s illegal in today’s America, as opposed to cursing the teacher which is OK in some districts.

If you don’t know enough English to actually converse, please restrain yourself from doing it.

He was my cousin’s son, and it happened, why would she make it up? No, it wasn’t in the newspapers.
