And I thought travelling in a car with dog f*rts was bad!!

Our dog was skunked once when I was a kid. We bathed him in tomato juice several times before the smell was bearable, and he still smelled skunky every time it rained for several months after that.

lol!!!!! Extended vacation anyone?

Dogs never learn… Hope Ted has some tomato juice, or at least maybe clamato juice in the bar?

Oh, WOW, UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, all too believable for those of us who have had this very experience.

Yup, and they never learn. Our Great Pyrenees was hit 5 times within a 3 week period. The last time right in the face that one gave him a trip to the vet… got in to see him really quickly when we arrived! Try bathing a Great Pyrenees with tomato juice….. we actually found cider vinegar works almost as well and is much easier to work with.

That is the worst thing that can happen to you that doesn’t make you bleed.

It’s going to be a loooooong trip back.

Farley is going to need a tomato juice bath.

One night, SLIGHTLY intoxicated in my back yard, I saw a skunk. Being a college student I deduced it was deodorized. I stumbled after that skunks through bushes and fences and finally cornered him. My friends didn’t want to hear (smell) the story for days.

Yesterday was AAs 75 anniversary. Thanks.

And my post from a week back [July 19th] comes (almost) true at last. Skunks are nature’s chemical warfare land champs, disturb at your peril!

I remember reading that someone got a ticket from a cop for having their dog in a carrier on top of the car while driving down the highway. So……don’t try it!

I was driving into twon one night in my brand new Camero when I hit a skunk! It wasn’t pretty!

One of my least favorite drive-time experiences is driving past a usta-skunk (used to be a skunk?). Phew - much worse than hitting it yourself.

It’s been about a year since my dog got skunked, and he still smells when it rains. We thought that when I skunk did his thing is was suppose to stop the animal threatening him in his tracks; not my dog. He chased him around the front yard for a while after getting spayed. (rolls eyes at dog.)

When I was a kid, it was our cat that got skunked. Try giving a cat a bath in tomato juice (or just a bath at all). You’ll want to wear chain-mail gauntlets for that one. The cat was mostly white with a few brown/black spots. After the bath, she was pink. That lasted almost as long as the lingering smell.

Magasek that was almost my story. We lived in a small town years ago and a close to white, I think the cat was outside for awhile at night, we’re not sure though for one part but came in the house smelling like a skunk got him what where not sure of he got sprayed or got in brushes where skunk had been. Anyway it was awfull to top it off he jumped on my lap wanting attention. That was long before I headed back to tech school for work.

seems everyone has a skunk story!! LOL!

Another skunk story……

We were at a McD’s years ago, and the car next to us had a skunk in it. On a harness! It was their “fixed” pet. I remember that it still kinda smelled a little, and that it was VERY fat.

My dad had a pet skunk when he was a kid. I remember him telling us kids about it just after Mom had banned our pet baby raccoon from the house. Sort of a “could be worse” story, I think. I recall Mom giving us a ‘don’t even think about it’ look. You know, I don’t think I ever told MY kids that their Grandpa had a pet skunk.

It was my first semester at college, and I was walking around at night, I was walking behind a building, and thats when I saw a skunk, thats also when I decided to go another way.

Another time, I was out walking with two of the family dogs, they decided to fight a skunk. I smelled a little bit like a skunk, but nothing a shower, and cleaning the clothes couldnt take care of.

There’s a wooded area behind our next door neighbor’s house so every now and then, even through a shut and locked door, you can tell when a skunk has been in the vicinity of our back yard. When that happens, no one goes out there … especially our dog! And if she has to go so bad she can’t wait, then she goes on a 3-foot leash so she doesn’t go in search of said skunk!!!

I don’t mind the lingering scent you get when a skunk has passed by - it reminds me of some after-shave lotions - but the up close and personal, no thank you! Remember that song “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road?” We drove past one once and it was pretty nasty. The car windows were all shut but the smell came through the vents. It was all windows wide open after that, even though it was mid-winter.

Jerry Clower had a story about the Ledbetters, which didn’t have anything to do with a skunk, but would be tempting dealing with a skunked animal. One of the littlest ones went to the highway construction site and fell into a barrel of tar. Ms. Ledbetter found him, pulled him up and said, “It’d be easier to have another one than to clean you up!”, and put him back in.

Tomato juice just gets you a pink smelly dog. Making a paste of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and Dawn dishwishing liquid is the best thing to use. I know. My dog got sprayed through a fence.

I found out that the easiest thing to use is lemon joice. Just get some Real Lemon in a big bottle and make strong lemon aid WITHOUT the sugar.

Rinse your poochie in it and be sure to cover him with it so no sprayed spots escape, thoroughly wet the fur, and the smell, or at least almost all of it, will disappear. Besides he will smell lemony clean and his coat will be soft.

This worked for me on generations of big country dogs all of whom I loved and who shared my home and often my couch and bed.

There is definitely something between dogs and skunks, dogs just cant leave them alone. porcupines as well.

I had gone somewhere with a lady I knew & she had her dog along. After her group meeting, we prrepaired to go home, but neeeded to let the dog takke care of business. oOn it’s way back to the van I saw something hopping across the yard, but iit was tooo dark to teell what it was. Well the dog saw it also & chaarged after it. About the time te ddog got to it the thing hopped into some light. After the got sprayed real good it ran at us, only to turn around and go back. This time the skunk sprayed the dog twice. Needless to say it was not a plesent ride home & to top it off thhe lady had a cold & stuffed up nose, therrefor rolling up alll the windows & loocking the other window switches.

We were camping. One of my younger sisters was playing in the field. The boys saw the skunk and threw a rock. My sister was hit square in the face. The sweatshirt she was wearing hung in the back yard for three years and still smelled of skunk.

Apparently lemon juice is really lemon aid.
