@John Pike - I have no idea! Saw that news story this morning, and could hardly believe my eyes. It was particularly surprising to me that he is from Tulsa, just not what I expected for Oklahoma.
@OtraVez - The reason is that Ohio Valley used to be the middle of the western U.S. before the Louisiana Purchase. They just never updated the nickname for that area of the country.
