We recycle everything. We’re even organ donors.

They’re not totally evil. You should see the care they put into wiping paper plates so they can use them again at their next party.

The local brewer was having trouble getting glass for its bottles. They put glass recycling dumpsters in the shopping centers near restaurants and bars. They are having to empty them at least twice a week and the shopping center is paying a lot less for trash hauling.

I’m kind of with Burl on this one. You have to wash and remove labels. Too much trouble. I saw a clip on TWC that said not to recycle used insulated coffee cups. They can’t be used.

Our town started recycling. You had to wash and sort all the containers. and then they all got put on the same truck and dumped in the landfill.

Back in WW2 the government held ‘pots and pans’ drives to allegedly get metal for wartime uses – but afterward it turned out that these programs were mostly to get people ‘into the spirit’ and the pots and pans they donated – many of which they probably would have liked to keep – were just dumped.

I live in Miami and I haven’t seen a way for those of us living in apartments and condos to recycle. We have a garbage shoot that we throw our bags down so they slide right into the dumpster but there’s no separate recycle bins. If our family wanted to recycle, we’d have to find a place to drive there ourselves. TBH, as much as I care for the environment, that is way too much work for a busy family to have to do. Homeowners and those renting houses here at least get green recycle bins outside of their homes that they use.

I guess there’s no easy way to logistically maintain a recycling program in a large condo community (6 buildings, 5 floors each, 10 units per floor) like mine.

California used to recycle all glass, but the program became too expensive. You can recycle marked glass (like soda bottles). You can also recycle cans, marked plastic and newpaper, but you pretty much have to do it yourself.
